I think hacks are only good to run around in big maps, and maybe on lava servers were you have to build really fast, but i think there is something of building something big without flying that simple make it really special wen its done, i have a lot of great and giants stuff on my server that i didn't used any hack.
Vote dislike hacking is never good BUT the admins of the serv should have some sort of flying or noclip inserted in the game becouse it is so anoying too go in too a serv build something great and you see a flying default skin coming at you then you are screwed. So players should not have hacks
I think they should be publicized. If people don't like them they can turn them off on their server. After all, the point of the game is to enjoy yourself and if hacks make the game more enjoyable and don't provide an unfair advantage over other players, why shouldn't everyone have them?
I know i'm new and my opinion maybe less important, but I see nothing wrong with the clients for non-griefing uses. Even those who do grief can be stopped. WoM has a great script that replaces any block you delete without permission and any good server OP knows that a backup should be made at least every half-hour. Not trying to take sides with the griefers but they are easily stopped.
If people are using hacks to grief your server and it is working, you are doing something wrong. As Mr. pepce said Backups, good op's, and a watchful eye can fully prevent hack abuse.
I use hacks every now and then. Really, hacks are way too useful. They help me build things faster and make building much easier.
I don't see why I should suffer in the name of 'impressiveness', really. We have rather different views on what's impressive or not if you think that forcing yourself to work much slower and way harder for no good reason is impressive and working quickly and easily to make the biggest, most interesting things efficiently isn't.
My two cents.

We're no strangers to love, baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no good, started makin' trouble in my neighborhood, I got in one little fight and my mom got scared, she said 'The Game'.
I use them on nearly every server I join. It's sad that it makes OPs not trust me as much, considering I only use them to build, get around a HUGE map (Ocean Build lololol) quickly, and noclip through walls instead of having to break my way through then repair behind me. Also, it's not that hard to keep track of griefers, as long as you have intelligent OPs.
Hacks are just like free will. It can be used for good or evil, but we can't protest it or else angry people will hunt and kill us slowly and painfully.
Yeah.

Well I joined the forums to discuss another hack. I wasn't sure if it was an actual hack though.
I joined a server called !!!Matt's Moderated Build!!! When I got into the game someone typed in "Im going to hack his computer or something like that" Then he typed "!hack updowners" (updowners is my username) . A couple of of random numbers came up (which I thought to be my ip address). Next, I was disconnected from the server and came up with the usual error message. I'm kinda afraid of playing this game now.
Sorry updowners, I haven't been on that server since Matt banned a lot of people in a massive fit of rage, so I have no idea what that means. I think that most other servers don't have the capability to do that, so if you're worried just don't go back there.
Frankly, I don't care one way or another if hacks are taken away. I went without them once and I can do it again. The main reasons I use hacks are for getting around fast and since the site stopped working for me (no survival mode :sad.gif:). Once Notch releases the Official Minecraft Client, I'll probably stop using them.

Does anybody else know about this?
Hehe.
Mind ****ery, with a good script using adura's regexp to capture logins for ips.
I totally did not make that script.

I disagree with you, therefore you are wrong.
Quality of output = Skill * Effort

It's like this:
Example 1: If a guy goes, "I killed a man with this!" and holds up an M4, it's like, meh, so what. It's easy as hell to kill a guy with an M4.
Example 2: If a guy goes, "I killed a man with this!" and holds up a handful of blueberries and a feather, it's like, WOAH. It is pretty damn hard to kill a guy with blueberries and a feather, but that guy pulled it off somehow.
So example 1 is like playing MC with hacks, and example 2 is like playing MC without hacks. Ya sorta see what I mean?

I see what you're getting at. I do have a few points though:
1. Building in minecraft with hacks vs no hacks is, IMO, less of a skills comparison, and more of a time comparison. I'm not sure where the challenge for building scaffolding and such would exist.
2. It seems that the analogy you used puts more value on the means and not the final product. It would make sense that the value that people place on the means vs the product vary wildly, which that preference ties in to how enjoyable building is for the player. So, rather than choosing one at the expense of the other, let people have the freedom to choose which method allows them to enjoy the game more.
EvilGrim does NOT grief.

Thank you Snowman.
Okay NOW I hack to take photos.

But I still dont like them.

And couldnt notch just do what he did with survival to make the hack not work?

I had someone on my server replace the admin blocks with stone so he could break them. He got ip-banned...
I think he did that mainly because hacks would ruin the survival gameplay.
I'm known as Kakashi, Kaka, KS, and the Coal Ninja =)
Yeah.

The real reaction would be everyone evacuating the entire building and running like hell. Just saying.
