Voted dislike them.
I would like to use them to clean up servers that have been griefed, but I dont think hacking is the way to go about it.
I like to play games how they're meant to be played, and I find it distracting to see people whizzing all over the place.
and as others have said, hacks in the hands of a griefer not something I want to see happen :/
Yea, hacks/glitches are all good just when they are used for some thing bad like griefing or anything that harms another user or their computer, other wise they are okay.
I don't like them on either side of the coin. On the one hand, griefers can use hacks to cause much more damage than usual and even escape higher security prisons - and that's just the hacks that are out now.
On the other hand, players and administrators that use them to build are taking a much easier route than everyone else (which lessens the impressiveness of the work, anyway).
tell me a game that hasn't been hacked... ever! almost everyone has used hacks at some point for a game. Most people use them to help them get around, walking from one side of a 512x512x512 map does take time (especially when you realise that it was the other corner you were meant to go to).
If you arent willing to monitor your server then make it private or turn it off when you leave. The main way to stop any sort of abuse in this game is to find trustworthy people and OP them. Reddit Public has well over 100 OPs and allows hacks as long as they are only for traveling around and helping you build. Any griefing or hack distribution on our server will result in a permenant IP and Username ban which cannot be appealed.
I don't really like them, but I would like to see flying somehow implemented in the game (preferably as a space-bar operated jetpack). It would be very useful as an admin to track people down, clear griefed buildings, and erase giant penises from the sky.

So you approve of hacks because A: you can't stop them so just get more OPs and B: because you should turn the server off when you leave? Forgive me if I find your counter arguments a little off-topic; it looks like you're arguing against anti-grief suggestions instead of anti-hack sentiments. However, since you used the "stop looking for workarounds and just close your server at night" argument (and since that's essentially "it's unsolvable so don't bother"), I could tell you to simply not use 512x512x512 if you don't want to walk so far. Those maps are always big and if you don't like it, play on a smaller one.

A jet pack for admins with a limited fuel would be great - it'd prevent people from using it to build, but it would be great for a quick overview of the game. If it was implemented for all users, it'd make stairs obsolete - which would be a shame...

Admins should have the ability to fly for any time, but normal players should not have the ablility to fly at all

Sooo... when's the next seecret Friday update topic going up? =[
i personaly dislike the idea of client hacks for two reasons; A. its unfair to others and B. The people who use them are usually really nasty; (Undead_Sheep for example is a hacker who got nasty with me for no reason)
CAPSALOT server (My sever) doesn't allow hacks. The second we see you using any type of hack bam your out of there. The fact is because people use it to grief or be idiots with them. Two it ruins the fun and challange of the game. I don't care what people build on my server (Ex: Server is extremely popular with swastika's everywhere) but hacking is a no no.
I think using the flying hacks to build is comparable to cheating. That's part of the game, to build that way you are meant to build, with the normal limitations. However, I think they are excellent when used as an administration tool. Being able to move quickly, and pass through structures without destroying them is very useful. Some of these options would be great for server ops to use. (/spectate would be really nice, Notch, hint hint) Of course, hacks would still pop up since that's just going to happen anyway, but I still feels ops need more functions for maintaining servers.
What I would like is for the hack that is making the rounds now to simply turn off the ability to build/destroy while flying. Thankfully, the majority of people I've seen using the popular hack have not been using it for griefing. I think that might have to do with the "paths" in which they are getting handed down through trusted players. Of course, it'll eventually get out for the idiot masses to wreck havoc.
Whitemage used his flight hack to put penises on several sprites, some person who I forgot usethat with a auto-click to spam the world with purple cloth.

I disagree with you, therefore you are wrong.

I like the use of hacks. While it does leave a big security concern to let people use them in your server and you have to watch them more keenly, I think using them is a big step towards more control over the time it takes you to build something large. If you were building a roof or a bridge across the sky it just takes simply too long to inch by inch get over the side and then build another block. I would much rather use a fly hack to build the bridge quickly. My thought is that the bridge will get done no matter what, so the means you use to make the bridge aren't an issue. As for building giant marvels, you can still feel good about yourself for building it even if you didn't use the "normal" or the "hard" way because you still took something from your imagination and put it into the Minecraft universe and that alone is what you were aiming to do, not to build it the hardest way possible. When you show off your feats of building to other people, I don't think all too many will care if you used hacks to make the build easier because the building itself is what's important.
So in the end if the people are using them to build that's fine with me. However no clipping, using them to get away from an admin, or simply causing some sort of havoc is grounds for an immediate IP ban imo.
If someone built something then said they built it with flying hacks. No matter how 'awesome' it looks. I'd just think "meh" of it. Because it's like saying "I BEAT THE LAST BOSS ON EXTREME DIFFICULTY! But I used infinity life cheats."
It's like, well that's not an accomplishment at all.

You don't.
If you don't know, how the hell did you find one?
