the community. Lets face it, popular mods are "stolen" (if thats how you want to classify it) by successful games. I really would not look at it like the mod was ripped off, I would think of it as an honor that your idea was good enough that the creators of the game thought that it should be included in the game. It would be nice if a name mention was given out for some credit to the creator of the mod idea but whatever.

Anyhow to the point of this post. If you have not tried the catacombs plugin for bukkit on a private server yet I really suggest giving it a look. Or just youtube minecraft catacombs to check it out.
A good friend of mine and I after we both get home from work like to log on and mess around for a couple hours at night on mineraft so I run a simple private server on my second computer. Recently we discovered bukkit and have a few plugins added on to keep the game interesting. We had explored pretty much everything that minecraft has to offer other than "minecraft is only limited by your imagination". We had terrible luck finding a stronghold, we wanted to do it honestly and not use creative mode to do so. We spent 3 days digging randomly and finally found one! We were way excited, I had told him that strongholds were added in to the game and there was treasures to be found.
What an absolute load of crap. We went in, ran around saw what seemed to be a cool layout with nothing to really fight except randomly spawned mobs every now and then, we could have just stayed up on the surface for a better time. The treasure in the chests - lame. All in all a huge waste of time full of an exceptional amount of disappointment. So when we came across this catacombs addon we tested it out. Built a few different dungeons with the generator with different amounts of levels and BAM. Challening random dungeons with terrific loot. Lots of mob spawners, a creepy feel. And really no two dungeons are alike.
There is also the millenare mod for instance that yogsbox includes. That thing is amazing. Not only do the villagers communicate they can buy and sell things, harvest resources, build more of their own village, build you a house if they love you, and you can even hire them to help you fight. We keep hearing about Mojang wanting to hire programmers such as a AI programmer to work on their absolutely terrible villagers, when in reality there are already people pumping out fantastic mods that should be part of the game.
The price of the game increased, it is being called a released game, and it is completely buggy and unfinished. People say that skyrim is buggy, but it also did not have a huge alpha, and beta stage where all the users were part of the bug testing. The NPCs in skyrim do not stand there and look blankly at you. The dungeons in skyrim are not unpopulated. I am not going to go in to a massive cry fest about the state of the game at release time, my complaint is that they have had the people and resources all along that could have helped to make a much more polished and complete released title then what was forced out.
TLDR:
Minecraft has had talented and wonderful people adding the things(mods) that the community is desperate to have in the game this whole time -- when will Mojang realize that these people should be considered to help move the game in the direction that the community clearly wants it to.
