Welcome to the recreation project of Miyazaki's Spirited Away world. The goal is to recreate Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away universe down to the smallest possible detail. From the train station entrance, to the ghost town, through the pig farm and into the bath house, even to Zeniba's cottage, all is incorporated in this project with no stone left unbuilt. This has been my project for the past 2 years, but recently I have accepted help from Sean (a.k.a. Natokill4) as well as a few friends to undertake this task.
Main Bathing Area:
This project seeks to recreate a photo accurate, 1x1 scale model of the Spirited Away world inside of Minecraft. The constructions are based off of hundreds of screenshots from the film, dozens of concept art illustrations found online, and our biased imaginations of the aspects that aren't directly shown but must exist for realism. I have created a fully customized texture pack to accompany the world in order to express specific details only achievable with the exact images from the film. The project is available on our official website as well as several other major Minecraft communities such as Planet Minecraft. I have also created a YouTube channel where our progress can be found in the form of in-depth

Most of the structures seen in the movie are built, as you can see in the screenshots, but now the main thing to work on is the details. Everything in the world is subject to tweaking based on screenshot cross-referencing, until we feel like we are truly in the movie.
That doesn't mean there is little to do, however. The entire ghost town, save 4 buildings, is an empty skeleton, since none of the buildings are filled in and furnished, complete with daylight sensors. The back side of the bathhouse is also an empty skeleton, except the key rooms. These rooms must all be filled according to their position in the building, be it a storage room, a dorm room, guest room, or kitchen. They must also be given a touch of wear and tear to feel like theyve existed for decades.
How you can support!
In all honesty, the greatest support you can give is knowing that you guys appreciate the work that has gone into this project. It would mean a lot to us if you would say how you feel about this project. If you have friends who are interested or you think would appreciate the project be sure to share this post or any of these links with them. What we are doing has never been done to such a scale on any of Studio Ghibli's films (as far as we know), and we want viewers to observe the detail and effort put into this project. If you like what you see, let us know. If you think something could be done differently, say it!
I have started a YouTube Channel to follow the production of the world. Subscribe to stay updated! Here's the first video of the tour:
I can see that you really put a lot of detail and work into this. The pictures looks quite the same, a perfect replica in Minecraft it looks like.
I wish you a good luck in finishing this, and a job well done on this build.
Yes. Yes! YES! About time someone started a project like this! The last accurate recreation of all of this was during Beta 1.6.4, so I'm definitely excited to see how this will turn out. Keep up the good work! I'm off to watch Spirited Away again.
Wow- super impressed. Huge Miyazaki fan and Spirited Away is one of his best works. Since seeing it last year, I've really gotten into anime. I've since watched nearly every Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli film and about a dozen other animes that were considered to be the best (AKIRA, Paprika, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time etc. Heck, I was watching The Cat Returns when I stumbled upon this.) Theres just so much more emotion in Japanese animation compared to comedy-based American animated movies... Anyway, Spirited Away is still in my Top 3 favorite animes if not animated movies in general. Its so great to see it recreated in my favorite game as well! Looking forward to seeing the finished project. Maybe after you finish this you can recreate Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Would love to see that. A giant toxic jungle would be a little harder to make than a small town but man would that be cool to walk through.
Also, this should probably be in the "Maps" subforum. It would get more attention there too.
You've got an amazing map going on man. Kudos to you!
Keep up the amazing work! I've been wanting to watch the movie again and after this surely it won't be much longer
