I have a rather simple request, but first let me please explain my situation.

My son has autism and he loves to play Minecraft. He's been playing for almost 1 year since a friend introduced it to him. It has made a big difference in opening up his creativity and fine motors skills and I'm very grateful a video game could make such a big difference. However, over the past three weeks things have become rather difficult for us.

The same friend showed him Mods that were done with Minecraft via Youtube. The Mods he really wants to use are Portal Gun and Paintball. I'm not very computer savy, yet I feel like I should be able to figure out how to get these mods to work, but I can't. And trust me I've tried. From watching countless Youtube videos and reading tons of sites on how to get these Mods to work I have not been successful. It seems that inks are either broken, websites have thousands of links to choose from make it very confusing, or the websites I get directed for downloads fill my computer with Adware and Spyware.

Needless to say, due to my inability to get either one of these mods working, my son his been very upset. If you know anything about Autism you may understand how difficult this has made everything else.

Is there anyone out there I can contact that can help me? Please?

I just signed up on this website and I can only hope there is someone out there who wouldn't mind helping walk a clueless father in getting these mods working.

I can show you, do you have skype?

Sure I can help:This is going to be step-by-step. (this is NOT a Mac)

1) download/install WinRAR: it's an archieving program

2) Download the mod

3) open up the mod by double clicking on it.

4) go to the start menu and type %appdata%, then open up roaming

5) Then open up .minecraft

6) Open bin

7) open the minecraft file,It should be an exuctable Jar File. If an error occurs and you can not open it open the mod file twice. Then from one of the mods you opened up press the arrow above name twice then enter Roaming that way.

8) copy all of the files from the mod into the minecraft Jar File.

9) Delete META-INF

10) Open Minecraft:Enjoy


If it needs ModLoader, Forge etc. Download them just like you did with the mod.

This IS another simple way and it allows u to get both forge and modloader mods

1. download winrar or 7zip

2. download Resuigamis modloader and forge.

3. goto start menu and type %appdata%

4. goto .minecraft.

5. and find the file called mods if u do not have this folder u can make one.

6. open mods folder

7. download mod

8. drag into mods folder and then close.

9. and enjoy ur minecraft mod it seems very long but its actually very very simple.

Most of these people are correct on how to install mods but I found this program while trying to download a mod myself. It's called the Magic Launcher, basically it installs the mods for you. All you have to do is download it, open it up, click Setup, select the version of minecraft, simply click add and then click on the mod you downloaded and then click open file. Then your done! Just use Magic Launcher to launch minecraft and it should work.

perchance check your minecraft is in the right minecraft version, many mods have not updated to 1.6.4 yet

1.6 has made it waaay easier to install mods. Nearly all mods require "Forge". Download the latest version of forge. It will install itself when you lanuch it. Download your mods. In Windows 7, search %appdata% in the start menu. Clixk on roaming. A file called .minecraft will be there. Create a folder called mods in there. Put your mods in there. Close all the folders and launch minecraft. Create a new profile in the launcher. Under version. Select "forgeXXXX" (Depending on the forge version) Sign in and hoplefully, when you have loaded the start screen, there will be a new button called mods. See if you can see your mods in the button mods. If there is no mods button. Forge was inatalled inncorectly.

There is a very simple way to install mods, but the mods you are talking about might not work with this but I will tell you anyways. The first thing you need to do is install something called "Magic Launcher". If you just Google this you can find it easily. After you download this you can download the mods you want, in this case they are the Portal Gun Mod and the Paintball Mod. After you have downloaded "Magic Launcher" and the mods that you want run "Magic Launcher" and press the setup button on the bottom right corner. After you have pressed this a new screen will show up. Press on the button that says add and there will be a new screen that shows files. Find the place where you downloaded the mods, add them and press OK on the bottom of the screen. Then the beginning screen will show up again. after you have entered in your account information press the login button and the mods should be working. I think you are a wonderful father and I hope that this helps you.
