I use Minecraft as a worldbuilding tool for writing my novels---currently I'm writing the Cadence Drake science fiction series. set in deep space in the far future.
And I've built scale models of three of the spaceships and two of the space stations used in the novels. I set up a free download for my readers, who suggesed that Minecraft players might also enjoy digging through my designs.
Overview of the spaceships. All are complete inside and out.
View from the level of the main space station
The secondary space station, unfinished.
The primary space station. Finished until I write the next novel and have to expand it again.
And another view of the main station.
I didn't post this on Maps---it's pretty clear those are designed for folk to play in, and this is just a map in Creative Mode designed to help me stay on track with the books I write.
But if you're interested, I do offer the map as a free download from my site. It's the second download button on the page.
And I guess I need to clarify. The Space map is the second download button in the MIDDLE of the page, and because my readers are not generally Minecraft players, (though quite a few did buy Minecraft so they could go into the map), the map is zipped in with a PDF that explains how to get help with Minecraft, as well as chapters from the first two books.
The PDF also includes hidden secrets to look for in the map.
That's the READ ME FIRST file. You'll need to unzip the download to get to the map itself.
I use them for plotting out the stories, and making sure characters can actually get from one place to another in the time I've given them, and in the case of the main space station, Bailey's Irish, for coming up with what I'm going to write about in the third book of the series.
And once I'd built it from my hand-drawn specs and was standing on the life-sized version of the deck of the Corrigan's Blood, I had a realization that my main character could not POSSIBLY afford to keep that ship running. Which gave me a neat plot twist in the second book.
I just played the game for a long time before I tripped over creative mode and realized I could use it to test my universes for bugs.
Since you'll probably be building several more large things, I'd suggest that you consider adding a mod such as Single Player Console to your Minecraft. Once you learn how to use WorldEdit, you can throw basic structures in with a single command and worry about the details and intricacies later.

There's an easier way to do this? All of those were done one block at a time....
This looks pretty fantastic! I'll also have to take a shot at some of your work- I'm a fan of science fiction myself.
I have about twenty years of novels out there, but most of them are fantasy. Science fiction has always been my preference, but I sold fantasy first, and got boxed in and labeled "fantasy writer." Took me a lot of years to get out of the box the first time, and MANY more years to get out for good.

Thank you. Once I figured out how to eyeball the curves, they were a lot of fun.
