Hi guys,
I am new here, but have been a long time Minecrafter.

I usually play survival mode, but browsing other's creations in the web made me want to indulge in maaking a big structure also. Therefore, I have started a project (long term) in minecraft to make a regional airport.

I shall post progress here.

Add a plane

PROJECT RESTARTED, PROCEED TO POST#8.

Because of unforseen problems the first build (aka problems with terrain), I have made the decision to restart the project at an early stage, before a lot work has been done, and make it in a superflat environment instead.

Update:
Runway is now 70 meters long. 50 meters is the Blast Pad (yellow chevrons) and Displaced Threshold (white arrows) and 20 meters is the main runway. The goings in this build is better than the first try, as I don't have to clear hills and mountains.

EDIT:
With this airport (yet to be named) to be a HUB of FedEx Feeder, the runway has been increased to 1100 meters to allow FedEx Feeder's largest planes, the ATR 72, to land and take off fully loaded.

80 meters of the 1100 meter runway has been done (oh, have I mentioned this is gonna be a looooooooooooooong project?) and aiming stripes has been added (3 stripes on each edge)



Comments, suggestions and criticisms please!


Also, I am looking for suggestions to what this airport will be named. Please suggest some names.

Maybe an Air Force Reserve base so it has military structures but not necessarily invaded?

Will do! Thanks for the encouragement... maybe i'll post this map for download when I'm done.

5,920 blocks of the total 44,400 or roughly 13% of the blocks needed for the runway has been placed. I've got a LOOOOOOOOOONG way to go on this project!

P.S. I won't be posting any screenshots for some time, because it's only a huge-black-with-white-spots rectangle as of now.

You should add zepplin, it lets you fly stuff aslong as it isn't dirt or stone

Are you planning to build a hotel and a parking lot(rental cars) for the airport... Generally they have those things. Are you planning to accurately design the inside of the terminals? Finally, are you possible going to include a tramlike transport. I notice larger airports have those as well as parking complexes.

I'm initially planning on having a parking lot, but maybe an Airport Hotel can be placed, too.

I will be putting a line (continuously running minecart on powered rails) from the carpark to the airport, and another line from one end of the terminal to the other.

You should put it on a server so that people can help....
