I do believe this is the right section for this topic. Anyway, I'm building a planetarium for the sole purpose of building. I'm planning on having it 175-200 blocks in diameter.
ATTENTION: I wanna put a fountain in front of it that is space themed. Need suggestions. Also when I'm done I might put the map up for download.

This is what happens when you house is to big for minecraft:
1. Dunno
2. Make bigger patchers of white i guess
3. Miningi, The mining twins (Gemini.) Cowrus, The Cow in the sky (Taurus.)Ocela. The flying fox (Vulpecula.)
If you want I can give some picture of what I think the constellaions look like.
I didnt get into constellations, though. The whole thing was really focused around phases of the moon in the game.
If you want an artificial backdrop (i.e. not using the actual stars in the sky as a background), you should use black wool. Unfortunately, due to the way lighting works in minecraft, any white material you use against that backdrop is going to be very difficult to see due to being in the 'dark'. That's why I ended up using glowstone for the artificial stars on the ceiling of the observatory's main exhibit room, so that they'd light up a little better.
Hey, I really like your idea! i agree that you should dig down to bedrock maybe or close to it for a better distance between you anda the stars. i recomend looking at the deep space turtle chase adventure map because i find thier stars to look really nice. as for constellations message me im good with mythology so i think i could help you out with some names.
Install SPC which comes with WorldEdit. Stand where you want the center of the dome, then press T and type //hsphere obsidian 100 and hit enter. This will generate a hollow sphere made of obsidian 200 blocks in diameter. If you want nebulae, fly over one "corner" of the dome and type //pos1, then dig one block down on the ground on the opposite side of the dome and type //pos2, then type //replace obsidian 75%obsidian,5%blue,20%purple. This will replace 25% of the obsidian with blue and purple wool.

If anyone wants to port/remake this, feel free to do that! Or don't. It's up to you, really.
Thanks for the answer. I'm going tomake the base using world edit.(what material should the base be) Then I'll make the dome by hand. Also is this a hot topic? I'm using a colorless kindle.
Thanks, once I get a chance to install SPCcommands I'll make the dome. I did the floor by hand. Also can someone explain to me how to install SPC? I don't use mods.

Worldedit centers the command on the block that you're standing on.
