I've had this idea floating around in my head for a while, and I've finally decided to start it. I want to create an Exquisite Corpse project. If you don't know what an Exquisite Corpse is, check this wikipedia page.
Exquisite corpse, also known as exquisite cadaver (from the original French term cadavre exquis) or rotating corpse, is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule (e.g. "The adjective noun adverb verb the adjective noun") or by being allowed to see the end of what the previous person contributed.
Basically, I envision it like this:
we have a theme chosen for each project, a texture pack, and a seed. all of those can be done by vote. we may also choose to use certain kinds of mods for future projects -- for example we can decide to do an Aether build or a build whose theme is particular to some kind of mod that changes The End or the Nether.
someone (chosen from a list of applicants to the project) creates the first part of the map however they want, as long as it's within theme, limited to around a 100x100 - 300x300 block area.
they then upload the map, hand it over to me, and I hand it over to the next person in line in the project.
next person in lines adds to the world created by the first person, likewise limited to 100x100 - 300x300 block area, likewise limited to building in theme. They should build fairly close to the first person's build -- at least within seeing distance. They may make only minor modifications to the first person's actual build -- ie if they want a path coming out from another person's building, and that path does not drastically interefere with the aesthetics of the first person's build, they may do it. Only minor modifications on the builds of others. Contact between participants to determine if certain modifications are ok is allowed and encouraged -- no one wants their creativity to be stepped on by the work of others.
that person hands the new map to me, I give it to the next person in line, etc. until everyone chosen for the project has had a chance to make their build.
The goal is to make a unified map with great architecture all in line with a theme, but to have each persons' unique vision of that theme expressed. Each person will be given no more than 1 week to complete their part of the project -- if they finish their contribution in under 1 week, that's fine too, we'll take it and move on to the next participant. Everyone does it in creative mode, SinglePlayer Commands + WorldEdit is suggested for all participants to speed up the process (or MC Edit if you prefer, or anything like that). Also, we must all be using the same version of minecraft: whatever the latest official release was (ie the version that gets automatically downloaded from the MC launcher).
There will be an application process for people who want to participate in this project, mostly just involving you showing screen-shots of your work, or youtube videos if you have any.
------------------------------------ PROJECT 1
For the sake of simplicity and accessibility, the first project will be started by me, and the theme chosen by me. For future projects, we can have votes on the theme/seed, and the order of who builds will probably be determined by random number generation.
I have already started the build, close to finished with my portion of it. The theme is Medieval. Castles, villages, churches, farms, dungeons, whatever you want to make, as long as it's Medieval. The seed is KILLA (has some nice mountains and cliffs next to spawn). The texture pack we'll start with this time will just be default. For future projects we can choose more interesting packs, including HD packs (preferrably to be limited up to 64x64 in case some participants have shitty computers or something). Latest official release was 1.8.1, that's the version we'll be using. No specific mods are necessary for this build. Just make sure you don't add blocks that are unique to some mod you're using. Only blocks that are available in vanilla.
Here are some pics of what I've got done so far:
If you want to participate in this project (I need 5-10 people), make a post linking to threads about your projects, or directly paste in images of your projects or youtube videos. You can tell us a bit about yourself and your strengths, or not.
