Hmm some very good points especially about how Minecraft we don't have the limitation of gravity. However does any one have any interior designs? There are plenty of exterior to inspire upon but the interior is rather limited. I would really like to fill up the other few levels in my extra large base.
I lack interior design :/ When I build most of my rooms are empty and spacious lol. I'll make a sub-category for "Interior Design"
T Man if you could actually leave it there, that'd be great. I'll be off the streets sooner rather than later anyway. and what I meant about the silo is a build challenge for you to come up with. I'd also love to see pics of it :smile.gif:
Alright, I've decided. I'm going to make the floating town I've been promising myself so long. Also, the reason I build medieval looking things is simply because I like the way they look. (Though this town will be different.)
Will post pics (IF I ever do get around to it.)
I like building ancient themed homes, like Anasazi cliff dwellings. I also like working with religious themes, like intricate cathedrals, the Taj Mahal, I'm working on the LDS temple in salt lake right now.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
What happened, deep in the hidden eras before history began, that could effect the human race so evenly as to give the entire race a deep, lasting fear of pale beings with dark, sunken eyes, razor sharp teeth, and elongated faces?
Pick a pallete of blocks to use in the construction of your house. You should use about 3-5 blocks for the majority of the design. For example, I recently built a modern looking house out of mainly Black Wool, Iron Blocks, and Sandstone with glowstone and glass compliments.
Don't just build a box. Make different shapes, use the golden ratio (google it) to make things look better. Not everything has to be 100% symmetrical.
Put glowstone behind your paintings. They are translucent and appear much brighter and more vivid with glowstone behind them.
Add a doorbell with note blocks.
Add frames around your windows. For example, if your walls are made of Planks, use raw wood to outline the windows.
Good contribution Z! All of these things are going on the main post, I really love the tip about choosing a "Palate" of blocks to use. I'm going to test the glowstone behind paintings in creative, I'll add link's to info about the "Golden Ratio"
Dante and Joost, your projects will also be updated on the main post
Oh and Joost, I like building around a med-evil theme as well, I just like the style of it.
Thanks to everyone that is contributing and posting! Helping this become a good list to help builders.
I'm working on a few pictures of examples, also doing the Post-Apocalyptic Challenge, should be some fun a inspire me to build some neat things :tongue.gif:
Building location is a very important aspect to architecture. Building in the right location that fits the theme or for size reasons makes all the difference.
For example: if I am building a city, the obvious choice should be to build in a swamp or plain biome. Less terra forming that way.
you guys have probably already heard this, but putting wood logs in the corners of wood houses looks really good. You could also stack stone slabs around the walls, not only does it look nice, it also protects you from endermen.

I think this is an excellent addition. One of those general things that helps a lot when building. Thanks! :smile.gif:
I normally go for defense on mine, but also decorating is a big part of my house also. I build a bit of a small like village with gravel roads and glowstone lanterns. Also I add a temple like design with pillars outside. For defense I make the house with a frame. A ground inset fram in the middle, walls of my choice on the outside, and walls of my choice on the inside. This also added a bit more of a realistic part to my houses with the old glass blocks.

Defense is my general theme as well. Your saying different exterior and interior materials? Hmm, this is a good idea, I'll try it out soon :smile.gif: Thanks!

Usually the mobs aren't too hard to defend against. Digging a lava moat around the area and use a piston drawbridge kind of just covered the defense part unless you are on PVP server of course. They should really add harder mobs. The new Enderman wasn't all that scary. Annoying maybe cause when you don't want to fight them they'll just teleport to you.
If someone's interested, I can post some pics of my ravine-village, but I haven't posted images before, so if someone could pm me a link or something with a guide for that, it would be superb :wink.gif:
Don't want to mess up the topic, you know :tongue.gif:
I haven't built very much yet as I'm playing ssp without any mods, so it could take some time..
The main concept of the village is to build wooden houses into the sides of the ravine, but with only one or two wooden blocks sticking out of the stone wall, with wooden walkways on the sides of the ravine. The whole village is built halfway up from the bottom, so there's about 15 blocks both up to the top and down to the bottom. It has support beams "randomly" placed beneath the houses/walkway. As I don't like to mess up the purity of the terrain, I like to build structures around the environment instead of lining everything up. This is usually pretty hard, because I'm a perfectionist by nature and usually do things symetrical and "perfect".
I hope someone find this entertaining when I'm done, and I'd really like to see someone else do the same :smile.gif:
