I think I really am more fond of creative mode. I can do all the things I enjoy the most (namely casual building, pixel art, and exploring) without having to worry about getting an inventory editor or dying like an idiot.
Today for the first time I actually decided to give creative mode a try. I can't say that I like it better than survival, but it seems to be a great tool to explore some of the more epic seeds and decide which ones I might like to play in survival.
I personally enjoy them both. But I must say that I've been playing creative much more just for the flying+immortal feel of it. I'm currently got a Survival game and a Creative game with the same seed so that I can explore in Creative and play the Survival later. Lame I know...
I just went to the Nether and was having a blast taking on Ghasts in the air with a sword. Of course it was loads of fun.
For building: Creative
For everything else: Survival
Eventually survival ends up getting easy; You no longer have trouble surviving and build massive structures for no apparent reason, and so I guess until the game really gains tons more content, or I can be bothered to install some mods, I'll use creative a lot more due to the freedom one gains from it.
Both are fun though, and although survival can get rather boring and repetive, I guess so can creative. The immortality and flight in creative allows you to do everything you've never quite achieved on survival, but at the same time those achievements would be far more rewarding if done on survival. For example, finding a dungeon or a network on mineshafts on creative is fun. You can explore, loot the chests for no apparent reason and learn about the contents, but on survival you have to do the same but with all the monsters, and a lack of flying, it's a lot harder, and obviously the contents of the chests actually mean something.
