If you're looking to do large-scale filling in and even terrain sculpting, go out and grab the World Edit mod. It may take some time to get used to it, but it helps a ton. I use it on my Creative world.
I'll have to check out the "World Edit" mod , it sounds interesting . Placing blocks gives you a chance to evolve your design as the build grows , enabling the creative process .
I don't think creative is very interesting if you have no goal in mind, yeah.
I rebuild levels from my favourite games. Though I have little interest in Minecraft as a whole, as a building tool, it's about the most fun thing there is. ;P Maybe you could give that a try? Kokiri Forest, Peach's Castle, Pokemon towns, whatever interests you.
If that's too much, maybe you could try other large-scale builds like mansions or cities you couldn't otherwise make in survival.
Yeah. For example, you can't really build easily, you place block by block, and it's REALLY annoying. Any ideas?
I disagree with that because you don't need any tools to break things if you made a mistake and you have access to more blocks that aren't even in survival, for instance, heads, the ability to summon a ender city portal in the overworld, and much much more if you mess with commands.
If you like to build in survival, then that's fine.

I don't like building with no custom blocks or no easy mechanics: The redstone's mechanics are hard.

You can experiment around with redstone freely in creative mode. It's the best way to improve your redstone skills, not to mention, satisfying when you invent something. You can also do the same with command blocks.. There's a learning curve to both redstone and command blocks, but with practice can easily be learnt.
That's how I learned command blocks, resource pack making, block modeling, world painting, etc.
by working on a huge adventure map run by commands, custom block models and textures, custom sounds, and custom terrain.
You can also use commands to help you build large areas faster.
for example.
I made a repeating command block to fill a 3x3x3 area around the player when right clicking a carrot_on_a_stick to aid in hollowing out various areas that I wouldn't be able to with a single fill command.

Okay, looking at your replies to people, it really seems that you're milking intolerance. Just use swiftness potions when you build if you're not willing to try WorldEdit.

Agreed, isn't the only alternative to building with commands building by hand...?
If you don't like it, well, find a new game I suppose.

Creative mode is whatever you make of it. If you don't enjoy mundane building projects (although building in survival is far more mundane) then maybe this game isn't for you.
Remember this, just like any other project, it will take time to build anything with or without editor mods. Time input = quality. Don't get discouraged. Minecraft is a form of art that needs to be mastered, and any masterpiece will require much time. You could set goals for yourself as you go. Make plans on what you're going to build each day. Yes, it may get boring, but in the long run it will be worth it.
A good example would be when me and friend built a guardian farm in survival. It took a week and many hours just to clear out the area for the farm. It was extremely boring but well worth it in the end.

Boring? Not if you have a healthy imagination. Start by getting WorldEdit, which will automate most repetitive tasks, like building shapes quickly, moving blocks, stacking structure elements that are repeated, and so on.
I always create a teleportation hub at 0 75 0 that has multiple teleporters to all the distant areas where I build. The actual building can be any shape. Then, create the teleporters:
• Type /give yourname command_block.
• Place a command block one level below the floor of the building.
• Right click on the command block, then type tp yourname x y z ("x y z" are, obviously, the coordinates you want to teleport to), then click "done."
• Place a block atop the command block, and a weighted heavy pressure plate atop that.
• When you step on the pressure plate, you'll be teleported to the coordinates you specified in the command block.
• Don't forget to make a teleporter back to your teleportation hub at the site of each structure. If you do, you can always type /tp yourname 0 75 0.
Then, let your imagination loose. Some of the structures I'm working on in creative mode:
• A beanstalk stretching up through the clouds to a village.
• A partially-sunken castle.
• A town with canals instead of roads.
• A Christmas village with oversized themed decorations.
• A steampunk city in the sky built atop giant gears.
• A multiple-biome city with buildings built of the appropriate materials.
• A city where each building is an oversized Minecraft block.
• Three cities of interconnected glass domes...one on land, one underwater, and one in the sky.

Figured it was time for a change.

The fun is in using command blocks and commands to automate your constructions. Use Redstone and you are well away.
I don't know how to use command blocks.

Then watch some youtubers and get better. Your not gonna learn if you don't try. It seems like you just like to complain
?

I'm not the best at building in creative mode, any tips for meh?
Anyone?
Minecraft needs a update, am I the only one that is still in 1.2.3????
I can't tell if you're trolling or if you're super dense.
See my post above.
