EDIT: The thread has been reawoken, so I thought I'd update y'all. The project is still going on and has changed a lot!
Hi everyone,
This is my project "City of Waterton". It's based off of modern German/Dutch cities with a tad of New York, and a tiny tad of Dubai. That aside, I really want to hear some feedback. Is this city realistic? If not, what can I do to improve? Where could I look to improve, and where to look for skyscraper inspiration? I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and I'm doing this project alone. I just don't feel up to standards.
I really want to know how you got those pictures! lol I think it looks good. I feel like it would maybe be nice to add a little countryside with some small curvy roads and some farms or something just outside the city!
If you want to make a Dutch city next to a river, you really have to make dikes and river forelands along the shores. The Netherlands have a quite eleborate dike and drainage system, because almost the whole land is laying beneath sea level.
Also be careful with sky scrapers: we have them, but not so intensively as American cities have. Mostly you find then only at important business sites in metropoles like Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
The real eyecatchers are mostly the ancient city centres, where you can find the most shops, cultural facilities and horeca, mostly with people living above them in appartments. Some cities have even still some old pieces of the ancient city walls. Mostly you can not drive your car easily around in those centres, and you can even only walk on certain shopping streets. Those streets have then nice brick pavements and room for terraces in the summer and small outside shelfs and billboards to attract people to the shops.
Those elements are also quite important for German cities, except then for the dikes.
Thanks for the tips! Although I probably should have put "inspired" rather than "based". Now while I'm aware that Europe's cities are lacking in Skyscrapers unlike Asian and American cities, I decided to do it for a bit of interest. At the moment I don't have any current plans of an older part of the city. (For now) I was previously aware that they don't quite have as many Cars as in places such as the US, and have quite a bit of Forest in some cities, such as Frankfurt. Along with more Rail based transport as well. +1 for the help!
Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
I can strongly advise you to build those older parts, because those old monumental buildings and monuments are making Dutch and German cities just that interesting. Especially a metropole as Berlin is a very interesting combination between ancient and modern, old and new. And what would Amsterdam be without the many canals flowing through the centre and the many canal houses bordering small, old streets beside the canals and the many houseboats anchored peacefully in the water?
No skycraper can match with this.
Those historic area's are giving the real character to those cities, especially if the centre has still the same streets and city map as in medieval times.
And indeed, we have a lot of cars, but not in every part of the city. We still have shopping area's where you are not allowed with the car, or where you even can not ride a bicycle when the shops are open: you have to walk there, eventually with the bicycle on the hand. Only at certain times, early in the morning, trucks are allowed to supply the stores.
Especially in the Netherlands, cycling is a much more convenient way of transport, especially in areas full with traffic. You will find (red) cycle paths along the streets on many places and also special traffic lights for bicycles.
I think I have enough space for a smaller district like this... :3 Also, thanks all for the responses!

Figured it was time for a change.
Of course nobody gives me any feedback. Here I am sitting and waiting... Hint hint.
On a side note, it would help to know that I'm also doing interiors, and am attempting to keep all buildings designs original.
Figured it was time for a change.

Check my Sig. There's a link to it in there.
I'll get to that shortly! In the mean time if you want some extra pictures,
check the link in my sig. Although some of them are outdated.

More cutouts on the sides of the river would spice it up a bit
Take a look at this graphic for example:
The river is a lot less of a box.
I swear, those pictures in the OP is pure eye candy. I could stare at that for hours. Yeah, that seems realistic enough.
Edit: I like that runway, that was cleverly done.

Great job, but maybe make the rivers less wide and more curved. Would like a world DL too, as would a few others
Before you even THINK about asking for crash help: Guide to fixing and avoiding crashes
As I mentioned earlier, a link to a DL and more pics is in my sig. I'll also see about adding more character to the water.
Figured it was time for a change.
Looks nice and realistic do you have close up pics?
Did mention having a few here:http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/maps/wip-maps/2400631-first-update-waterton-a-modern-city-v-0-1-1

Figured it was time for a change.
Looks pretty epic to me bro. I've tried to build cities and...well...they didn't look so good. So in my opinion it looks GREAT!:D
