The current minecraft mini games, while not perfect, are a nice addition to console, however they are very limiting not only in freshness and replay ability, but in their audience. Sky wars and other popular mini games are probably inevitable to come, but I think within the next few mini games we should have a mini game that is more competitive than the last few. Don't get me wrong, the competitive feature in the game is great and the "battle mode" can be intense at times, but the current mini games are pretty casual and often rng based. For example, in battle mode, if you are in control of the middle on a condensed map and your best weapon is a wood sword or diamond pickaxe, and I find the fire aspect stone sword on the outskirts, unless you get to an open area with a bow, or find a stone sword as well, your odds of winning have been diminished greatly (keep in mind you don't know I found a stone sword before I blind sided you). This is fine in battle mode because it is all for fun, getting lucky is a part of the game. However when a sky wars is made not much will change besides the possibility of teams, which would be great. There would still be the rng of what was on your island and what was in your chests. It would be almost the same thing as battle but wrapped in a different package.
So what mini game ideas do I have? How about some kind of team pvp (TDM), micro battles or dueling (1v1). This will help draw people in who may have not liked the previous mini game formulas, and can help to appease the less casual players. Many of my friends who do not enjoy battle is because they say it always ends in to people holding r2 against each other until the one with worse equipment dies. I could argue that statement, however they are not too far off. Instead of finding your equipment randomly, there could be a kit system where you choose what kind of equipment you want to suit how you like to play (you can disregard this idea for micro battles). Alternatively if that is too difficult, or just for micro battles, everyone could have the same gear which could differ between maps.
Anyways, whatever the next mini game added is I will look forward to playing it. Thank you for the continuous support of console edition.
Additionally note: The glide minigame has been a lot of fun. However having only one course and no way to interact with the obstacles or players makes the minigame get repetitive, and then boring. A new course could change this for a little bit, but the same problem would arise again that it was too repetitive. Still I do like the addition as a side option every now and then, but unlike battle and tumble, it is hard to play and enjoy it after many consecutive games.
I have no problem with the idea of competitive mini games, but the truth is the current Minecraft multiplayer would not support it very well. I'm sure you have noticed in both tumble and battle that connection plays a major role. In tumble having a bad connection to the host is a huge advantage because for other people your position updates will be delayed. This makes it so people can break all the blocks under you when reality you aren't even standing there. In battle mode the delay in connection can cause for some very unfair battles where you get triple hit and none of your hits register.
I agree, but lag is not a minecraft problem, other games have hosting like dark souls, blacklight, and many more. While the majority of people will not play a team deathmatch mini game on a consistent basis, enough people will play it to make it a worth while investment. A game mode without the randomness of battle mode, and more a more competitive orientation than tumble, will appeal to the audience that likes pvp.
