So.. just got done with the Console Minecraft panel at MineCon. They only took questions from kids, and mostly they softballed but a few hit them on good points; Realms, cross play and the like.
These were given non answers. Usually the same "Well we have to keep all these versions the same" (funny, I didn't know they had the larger map sizes on 360..).
So, I would like to know who lied. Did Microsoft, at its E3 press conference say that we get these features early next year without ever discussing it with 4j? Doubtful. Is 4j still being cagey because they don't want to admit MS is taking the X1 version away from them?
So, I don't know what to think. I am BEGGING for some official statement about this. But I know I won't get one. Silence only means either they can't contractually admit things are changing, or are too embarrassed about it.
Or it means that we will continue to be hamstrung by ancient hardware. And if that is the case, the instant i can get the majority of my friends to play on ANY pc version, we will be abandoning a sinking ship.
I am still waiting for 4j, maj and MS to stop pointing fingers at each other and someone tell me and others why our cloud is broken. i havent been able to play since march. my ONLY hope is that realms comes eventually, and i can upload my game save there.
They are still putting out updates for the consoles so they must be interested in keeping them going. But why they can't fix the major issues such as the cloud issue that some are having, is beyond me.
And why they can't move on from the X 360 is also beyond me. It's more than past time to move on for X1 versions. Even simple things such as mob caps can't be that difficult to have different between versions.
And why they can't move on from the X 360 is also beyond me.
There's probably still a decent player base on the XB360 + PS3 and then there's those who can't afford an Xbox one / PS4 or simply have no need for one.
To cut off a Platform that still has a decent player base and isn't dead (Like ghost town dead) and is still running fine would be pretty stupid. Maybe when XB360 / PS3 dies down and start's turning into a ghostown then maybe the Developers might ditch the platforms as it would start getting pretty costly for them to release updates for a platform that's now dead and isn't getting much use if any at all.
As for Mob Caps I don't see why the PS3 or old generation should be affecting XB1 / PS4 worlds. Clearly the PS4 / XB1 (Maybe the Pro and Scorpio will too if they release a version for that) can handle a bucket tonne of mobs, it's just the performance that becomes a issue but if they fix that and perhaps stabilize the game then we could probably have a bigger mob cap.
Yeah it's been bought up too many times but i'm not one for devices ways but let me say this.
PS4 is more powerful than my Ipad Air (5th Gen in Ipad series) My Ipad Air can handle a bucket full of mobs (It of course lags after a certain point but you have to constantly be spawning in mobs for the lag and framerate to hit) There's also no mob cap on the PE edition as far as I'm aware of.
PS4 through can't even handle maybe 50 mobs in the one area (Now remember that PS4's are more powerful than a tablet) This doesn't make any sense. Why is a more powerful device not able to handle a bucket full of mobs but yet my tablet that has less power than my PS4 can handle lots more than the PS4 / XB1 ever would before framerate loss kicks in?
I gave up on the console versions, I have moved to PC version, the console versions are all disappointing, 4J Studios are lazy, What the heck was that Panel yesterday? Most if not all the questions were answered by 'No, we don't know about that' or 'We still don't know when to implement that' or 'we have to make all versions the same'........WHAT THE HECK? You guys still play on these silly console version, you should all sell your consoles and jump to PC, SERIOUSLY! So they can see that they didn't do great with the console versions. It's much MUCH better than the console version, all you got were Skin Packs and Mash-Up Packs and some stupid Online Mini-Games........ PC Version offers:
1- Custom Skins.
2- Share Worlds.
3- Realms & Servers.
4- Infinite Sized Worlds.
5- Updates & Features 1 Year earlier.
6 -Bigger Multiplayer (Up to 64 Players or more).
7- Mods & advanced Texture Packs and other graphical enhancements.
Okay but some of you need to remember that while there's people out there with devices, they won't always have the money to move to another platform or buy another device. There might be a Kid out there who only has a PS3 and he's / she's parents have a PC but it's just some basic low end PC that wouldn't run a game like minecraft even if you tried hard. The parents may say "No" to getting a PC for the kid because the Kid already has something. You'll probably say something like the kid should get a job.. what if he's 8 or something? the best he can do is pocket money and that'll take a lot of time to save up for a PC that would run minecraft at a stable 30FPS but this is not the thread for that so i'll stop here.
Also I doubt people would want to sell their consoles and move to the PC because of one game not getting updated or updates starting to go down(There may be people like this, who knows) But if the person no longer sees interest in the console platform anymore then of course they'll try selling their console and jumping ship to PC.
Also how much would a PS3 or XB360 be worth these days? depending on the storage space, games included, accessories and what not you may look at netting $100 - $200 at the most now. which probably isn't far from getting a PC that COULD probably play minecraft. There's so many computers on the market and you need to do your homework and Research big time to make sure you are getting the right PC that can play minecraft at a stable 30 FPS or more. Why 30fps? Well no one wants to save up money for a PC and find out that the PC they bought can't even reach 30 FPS on minecraft no matter the resolution or settings for the game.
Also what's wrong with playing on the Console version anyway? I get people are frustrated about the updates taking forever and getting so little back (I myself am annoyed but note that I'm entitled to my say too) but I just find it more easier and simplified to play + a majority of my friends are on there and some of them even see no need to move to the PC.
Simply put you don't have to worry about your settings on the Console edition. You don't have to worry if the game will work on your console.
there's probably a few more reasons but I'll stop here for now and I'll add anything else if I think of it.
Not saying to drop x 360 development, especially if the player base is still there, but surely can't be hard to increase the cap on X1 and leave it lower on X360.
As for the consoles in general, I still prefer them since I play with my family so split screen is a major factor.
First off, I never said ditch the console entirely. Just console Minecraft. You'd be a moron to sell the entire console over one game.
Secondly, we're on the second console revision of the next gen consoles after the 360/PS3. No other game is still updating old gen, that I'm aware of. So the fact that we are still being held back by them is inexcusable.
Third, if they want to keep working on ancient hardware, fine. As long as current gen versions work properly[/i]. We need [/i]higher mob caps and other quality of life optimizations that we cant get as long as they are constrained by old code. Not to mention in my original post I point out what MS said at E3, which is impossible if what 4j said this weekend is true.
Personally I think the windows 10 version is eventually going to replace the current console version. I for one am looking forward to whatever is on the horizon as a possible replacement. I used to believe that 4J was one hell of an upstanding company that was committed to bringing quality products to their audience, but that seems to have slowly changed over time. Now they ignore many bugs, and issues plaguing this title, such as those with villages, spawn caps with some creatures such as squid, not to mention the spawn algorithm itself which is severely messed up and running at a quarter of the speed it does on PC.
They cater to the select few which may have any type of audience and are willing to break the game all in the name of favoring these people, case in point is minecarts speed increase.
They won't address key issues, such as tripwires preventing spawning of certain creatures such as endermen, nor clean up the spawning related issues and fix what needs to be fixed to make the game run more smoothly, such as actually using structure files so the game can KNOW where what should spawn without having to calculate it within the spawn code, thus increasing the spawn rates to what they once were.
Whatever happens in the future has to be better then whats going on now, they have little regard for the community, and have made promises in the past to fix just that but we all know that fell through. I don't hold any ill against the employees there as they are just doing their job, but the studio head really needs to be smacked off his high rocking horse.
Probably going to be my final post here. Been saying the same thing for months and begging for some official word on ANYTHING. Nothing. I have to assume either they can't confirm or deny anything, or they just won't. Either way, until something changes it makes this forum pointless.
If I get a response, good. Even if it's to say my theories are wrong. I doubt I will because I doubt I am. But, who knows, maybe the next update will fix all our woes and "Make Minecraft Great Again".
Honestly, minecraft on xbox is just a joke at this point. What a flop.
It's a game obviously for pc and at a higher demand for pc.
They've just neglected the game for xbox and other consoles. I think 4j has really just given up on minecraft on consoles, really. Microsoft is just gonna milk it for all they can get till it eventually gets to a point where it no longer sells for on consoles and just discontinue it.
Don't let other fill you with false hopes because it's really going no where for consoles.
But who knows right? Maybe the new Xbox Scorpio is just the right hardware to support minecraft rightfully.
...It's a game obviously for pc and at a higher demand for pc....
completely incorrect. it might have started on pc, but pc is only 30%'ish of its customer base now. Console and mobile have far surpassed PC sales and user-base. Consoles and mobile should DOMINATE the 'needs and wants' department.
You must have missed the Console panel at Minecon. Several people asked 4j about Cross play in general and Realms specifically and they were vague in responding, usually claiming they would have to find a solution for "all versions" before doing it. Despite Mojang clearly stating, twice now, that it will be next year.
Probably right. I guess it was the way they were answering that rubbed me the wrong way. They kept framing it as, "We won't do anything on one console that we can't on them all", which is already false given map sizes on current gen.
It ticked me off as being disingenuous. Like they pretended Mojang hadn't said anything when a simple, "we can't share any details, but there will be news next year" would have been perfectly fine.
I have to admit, your thread title and first post don't make any sense to me. It was announced at E3 about Realms eventually allowing cross play across all platforms. What is the "lie" you claim someone is telling?
look he posted this less than an hour after the panel.
BIG questions were asked to employees that either didnt have answers or weren't allowed to give them. They pretty much pretended liek the audience didnt know what they were talking to. SOO Hot took to the forums and vented his frustration. that's all. at that point in time it was a valid question. Are they lying NOW or at E3..
Her lol. But yeah, I tuned in hoping for news on what was said at E3 only to hear them pretend nothing was. It's impossible that they didn't know what was said.
But, Mojang cleared up the confusion, so I now just can't trust 4j. Looking forward to the eventual takeover. Which will be good for us all, as it means we will have PE/W10 map sizes, spawn caps and such (cross play would be impossible otherwise).
So.. just got done with the Console Minecraft panel at MineCon. They only took questions from kids, and mostly they softballed but a few hit them on good points; Realms, cross play and the like.

And if we get Realms, that's all I will be playing. And it will have to be exactly the same as their versions.
Imagine if you on xbox one are playing with someone on w10. What happens when they move beyond the map edge on x1? See my point?
I can't imagine they would reduce anything for PE and W10 versions to accomidate a last gen game. They would exclude the 360 before that.
