Hey guys. For the past two weeks or so I have been having a big problem. My game freezes upon saving and in some cases corrupts my save. This occurs in the main area of my world. This happens about 40% of the time. I have been making backup saves to hopefully wait this out until it's fixed. I've been on this save for 3 years and I really don't want to lose it.
Another problem that started happening at the same time is that the word will sometimes freeze with a loud juttering sound and crash to the dashboard when loading chunks in my world's main area.
I have been travelling to the other side of my world every time I save because the problem doesn't seem to happen over there.
I don't know if this has anything to do with the latest update but I hope something can be done to fix it. If I have to abandon this world I'll probably have to abandon the game and I'd really hate to do that. :/
This too happened to me when I first updated to tu31, as soon as I spawned in my base my game started crashing to dashboard, I couldn't figure out what was happening so I created a new seed, about three months into my new seed just after completing a temporary guardian farm my game started crashing so I put it down to the amount of flowing water around me was causing it between the rendering and animation of it so abondoned project and set at something else, two months later juminp in to my end portal my games freezes and crashes out to dashboard, this got me well pissed... so after abit of searching and reading through comments, I found out that minecraft has a different code for chests full with items as compared to empty chests and 80 to 90 full chests in a chunk is enough to crash out you're game, this is what my three crashes had in common is that there was three storage units all with storage for half a million items, my first seed was my witch/sugarcane farm then my guardian farm and finally my obsidian/ crop farms, luckily iv been keeping backups since my first seed got corrupted, but after the second time it corrupted I carried on at different tacks on the same seed and now that I know the cause of it I would have to revert back many saves and lose out on alot of work or just carry on and build a new guardian farm and just try to avoid those courpeted chunks.
This may not be the case for all corpution but after getting back into my end with autosave disabled I was able to break down a few chests and the problem was cured, have you got a large storage area in you're main base???
This in interesting. Yes I have a 5 story storage warehouse with at least 100 double chests full of stuff at my main base. I'll try to break some down and build another storage house further away.
Yes it's very interesting, as soon as I'd broke down a few chests and dispose of the items I was able to safe the game and exit through my portal with out crashing. Let's us know if it solved it fir you
I'll try removing a dozen double chests and storing them about 500 blocks away in another building I made. I'll do that tonight. I hope something works. This is stressing me out.
It didn't help. Actually it was a bad day for crashing yesterday. I only got one session saved. The rest all crashed to dashboard when saving. Usually at the "preparing chunks" or "finalizing" step.
Uh oh that's not good. Might be worth making a new copy of that world then set that new copy to creative so you can break all the chest, I normally burn all the drops in lava to clear up then move far away or to another dimension, then try and save, if it saves then try going back to base to make a save, and if that works try it on the real save. After that I dunno, this is what worked for my corrupted chunks
OMG!!!! Markasparagus, I have got to thank you so much! I have been having this exact problem for over a year and have not been able to play the game at all due to this! After making a new copy of my world and setting it to creative and breaking all of the chests of cobblestone I was able to save without the game crashing!!!!
Also OP I did try moving my stuff before hand with autosave disabled, and it did not work. So I am guessing you just have to break the chests in creative and loose your stuff....
Thank you fella happ to help... : ) but you shouldn't have to do it in creative, I suggested a creative copy above for trail and error, I was able to get in to my end island on survival and break the chests, but I did burn my items in lava and then saved, once your not trying to store all the items in another different chunk it should work out . If you wanted to keep the items you could put the most valuables in to you're ender chest until chunks are fixed the rest you could throw through a nether portal and pick them up on the other side, but if it is only cobble I would burn it all in lava... : D
Well I got rid of about 40 double chests worth of stuff with lava yesterday. I proceeded to play for about 3 or 4 hours and saved at least 10 times. No issues so far. You may have fixed my issue! I'll keep you updated.
I really sucks to lose all of that gravel and cobblestone.
Good stuff. Happy to hear that it worked. : D. And ya the gravel I would miss myself as it is a non renewable item and iv been hoarding all the non renewable blocks, but cobble... meeh... ; ) keep us informed. I posted a tread a few months back when my game was crashing I should update it one of these days and post my findings might help a few others out.
So it's been an entire weekend of heavy play and my issue seems to be solved. It sucks that this game seems to have a limit on how much you can keep in chests but I am beyond elated. Thank you so much for your suggestion. You're a lifesaver.
You're very welcome my friend... : ) that's what this fourm is all about..
But you can still hold as much as you want, but space things out abit more, I still got storage for half million but it takes up a little more room, just try to not cram as much into one chunk...
Oh wow it's almost exactly one year later! Hey Markasparagus. It's been a long time. I forgot about this thread but came across it while googling some stuff. Some coincidence. I'd like to say thanks again. I had the issue again a few months later. I used your method and it fixed my world again. I still haven't moved much of my storage, I just keep less stuff that tends to sit forever like dirt and cobble. Eventually I'll stop being lazy and create another storage warehouse far away.
Hopefully this thread helps many others. Take care, friend.

I have well over 20 chests of cobble and another 20 of gravel. I'll try this tonight.
