Well this is a new one on me, I didn't know that baby zombies could ride chickens! I was so shocked that it got me down to one heart health before it occurred to me to run away. I would have killed it, but had been looking for chickens for so long that I didn't want to kill it. I ran back to my house and shut the door but it came straight through the door and finished me off. Either this was a glitch, or may have just been passing through the door as I closed it. Anyway, I respawned in the room next door and all that was left was the chicken. Don't know what happened to the zombie, though it's possible that it turned to day and died, but I can't recall. I was so freaked out by it that I wasn't paying attention to time of day. Another weird thing was that the glowstone in the ceiling had gone dark and only lit up again when I hit them with left trigger. Again, I assume this is some kind of glitch but was just curious about the zombie jockey really.
Baby zombie chicken jockey are quite rare. I've only seen a handful in my few hundred hours of playing. But you can certainly kill the baby zombie separately from the chicken, or as you suggested, the daylight killed him. As for the door, I doubt it's a glitch but just as you suggested, you closed the door too late.
No clue about the glowstone, that should always be on...XBONE has some weird lighting glitches sometimes, so perhaps that was it.
I think they have been more of a nesence sense there addition more then any thing, and have made my chicken farm more or less wasted as I can rarely seem to get more then 6 or 8 seeder chickens before meeting their cap, because of the chicken jockeys that spawned in caves and once the zombie despawns it leaves the chicken traped in a confined area where it can't despawn. I can get twice as many chickens running my gold farm for an hour then my chicken farm produces....
Gold farms work great for chickens. If I afk all night I can end up with dozens of them stuck in the collection area. The xp funnel kills the jockeys pretty reliably but the chickens mostly survive and I haven't gotten around to figuring out a way to kill them off automatically.
In my gold farm iv got a slow clock runing in the kill chamber that periodically actives a double piston extender and pushes the chickens and jockeys into a cactus wall and does the trick nicely
Mine is also an afk xp farm and the killing chamber is 3 x 3 and designed so that the xp orbs fall through a hole in the center after pistons push them there. The cactus idea won't work for me, I've been thinking about a lava layer on fence gates most of the way down, but like I said I haven't gotten around to modifying it. When i built it i had no idea that I'd get thay many chicken jockeys.
