It is time to leave the older generation behind. It just is. Stunting the growth of X1 Minecraft to be able to squeeze everything into a tiny plot on the 360 is utterly insane.
The newer version is supposed to unleash the games potential, not be a visual marker of how much it's being held back!
The worlds on my bloody smartphone look better, and it's three years old!
In order to grow, X1 MC needs to be it's own thing, not the Navy Seal committing himself to death because he refuses to leave the dying soldier behind.
Please, for the love of God, make this game as great as it could be.
Regards,
Mat.
I could not have said it better myself. I am seriously contemplating switching over to the pc version if this does not get fixed. If enough famous youtubers want this then they will do it in a heartbeat. If us commoners want it, tough dookie. The current gen versions are gimped and held back to accommodate for older consoles.
It is plain sad pocket edition terrain blows this gen of consoles out of the water. wtf! :/
When is Microsoft gonna step in and replace 4j. They obviously can't handle this game anymore.
Numerous game breaking bugs followed by months of silence followed by fan backlash followed by terrible excuses, repeat. People are losing their world's left and right for crying out load.
I can't take it anymore. I'm taking a loan out for a gaming pc.
I have to say it is a little disappointing that this extremely obvious issue is not getting any update. Biome generation was fine before this latest round of updates, now it isn't. There are plenty of forums (not just on this site) with the heading "Won't play until world generation is fixed." So, people are not playing console versions of the game, which sold ridiculously well, until the worlds started looking like they did before the update. At what point will M$ realize that they are losing money before demanding a roll back of this biome generation code?
A. Worlds fine, copies being sold.
B. Update happens, breaks worlds, console players upset and boycotting, no more copies being sold, company losing money.
C. No updates given to public that is asking for them, nor options to prevent new and broken world generation.
D. People lose interest, move on to other titles, lose even more money.
I do not have an MBA, but this seems like a losing business strategy to me. What is especially egregious is that a new skin pack is available, calling itself the "Biome explorers pack." So, you can make new skins to try and gather money, but won't fix the problem that is causing many players to not play, and then compound the insult by calling the skin pack the same name as the issue?!?!?! Am I the only one that sees this as insane?
The generation code will be getting looked into - It wasn't viable it for the current update for a number of reasons.
Primarily
it needs to be carefully reworked so that Generation on consoles
doesn't take a silly amount of time and once it's in place it needs to
be heavily tested.
I wouldn't say biome genereation is not getting an update, 4j Steve commented that they are working on it. So there is that.. I am with you though, haven't touched minecraft for some time on console because of this.
I'm also enjoying the power of the pc verison. Just got my new laptop yesterday and the Minecrafting is glorious. Just uninstalled the X1 version for good measure. Adios.
I've also in the last few days finally had a look at PC MineCraft. It's been instructional as to the limitations and achievements of the console version. I think a real bottleneck on console has to be that it can act as a server for 8 players AND run in split screen, something the PC version does not natively do. I've doubts Amplified could ever work on console.
What really isn't forgivable at this point though is how Mojang / Microsoft have dragged their feet on producing a Realms equivalent for console. It SHOULD fix most issues with limitations, Microsoft certainly has the budget to do it properly, and it stands to be such a money spinner having a subscription service that it's baffling it wasn't done four years ago.
Given so much of what makes console inferior to PC is about controlling income streams (eg no free skins, texture packs, adventure maps, server communities, game modes, community invention) it's especially nuts that they don't then work those income streams and simultaneously make the game better for players.
I 100% agree with respects to realms for consoles, however, keep in mind that 4J owns all rights to console versions right now, and make all income on sales for it, with the except to maybe some mashups and skins that are being licensed. The point is, that Microsoft has no real reason to setup servers for Minecraft. Realms is cheap, dirt cheap, like 4$ a month or something like that, which pretty much just pays for the bandwidth and server usage. Microsoft would NOT make any money here, and they know it. Furthermore 4J would be in an odd placement if such agreement was made with Microsoft, other consoles would go ballistic (Sony, and Nintendo).
On the other hand, if they wanted to host themselves they run into issues with older consoles not able to support 3rd party hosting. It was one of the biggest issues to plaque previous gen consoles. All servers had to be run on Microsoft's network, and thus required paid subscriptions if you wanted one. This is not the case in next gen consoles, so 4J could very easily setup a 'realms like' server for next gen if they wanted to, which I doubt will happen because older gen will get upset over.
I wish 4J would be more open with us, letting us know what paths they are attempting, what ones failed and so on, but some company's thrive on secrecy, and 4J seems to be one of them.
The biggest issue I'm worried about with biome code, is, is it going to effect slime chunks. We already are having difficulties attaining info, if slime chunks are changed wow, imagine trying to figure out where they will gen then.
And yes the PC is nice, but multiplayer isn't near as easy to setup for your friends to play in your world, the controls are not as easy to use, but you adapt over time. They have had LOTS of time to adapt and fix the game. I honestly don't think 4J even plays their own game. They can't seem to get redstone done right, and the lag that occurs when the game saves is inexcusable.
I realize that we are running under constraints, but these constraints are far superior to my minecraft PC, and it at times runs circles around the next gen version, which has a lot more GPU/CPU/RAM.
They have done a pretty decent job, but need to play their own game and find out where aliments are for themselves, and for the love of god stop adapting code for old gen consoles.
I wouldn't say biome genereation is not getting an update, 4j Steve commented that they are working on it. So there is that.. I am with you though, haven't touched minecraft for some time on console because of this.
Hello Singularity,
I must apologize as I read that update from 4J Steve well after posting. You are correct, and I retract that particular portion of the statement. I guess what is getting folks upset is the lack of any feedback. What else is that Twitter account for? There have been no new posts since February 26th. Even a "hey, still working on it, just keeping ya'll updated," would alleviate like 80% of these threads.
... I guess what is getting folks upset is the lack of any feedback. What else is that Twitter account for? There have been no new posts since February 26th. Even a "hey, still working on it, just keeping ya'll updated," would alleviate like 80% of these threads.
Myself and others have suggested the very same thing and 4J Steve's response was that he would 'talk to the team about it' and that was the end of that.
They have your money, and that's all that matters to them. Well, except for when the youtubers start complaining, then they start posting stat updates and responses right away. Nonetheless, I have started playing pc and will continue to until they fix this mess. This thread and others I am sure they just laugh at and at us as well.
Once again I ask, how can PE blow xbox one and ps4 out of the water with terrain generation? Makes no sense. 360 and ps3 are nothing but a lead albatross at this point in terms of trying to keep up. I feel bad for those that bought consoles so they could try to enjoy the game on better hardware.
I feel bad for those that bought consoles so they could try to enjoy the game on better hardware.
That was me, for sure. Started on the PC version on a laptop that could barely keep up. Any mod beyond Optifine dropped my FPS to like 5. So I thought the console version would work much better for me. Also, I dislike WASD-Mouse gaming, and prefer a controller.
Built lots of great worlds, shared experiences, met new people... all that good stuff that Minecraft is about.
Then this latest update just broke it. Just broke it. I was so excited to see that we were getting ocean monuments and new fish and was super-excited to see mesa and ice spikes. That excitement is now gone, and I am basically killing time until the Division comes out.
Is there any way we can roll back to just before this update until these issues are fixed? I will settle for less biomes, blocks and mobs if only the biome generation and other issues will disappear! We waited so long for "testing," only to get a massively broken update.
Sorry. Rant over. I will continue to play Minecraft, just found a somewhat decent seed (with ACTUAL VILLAGES!) that I will keep "classic" until these problems are ironed out.
I'd recommend finding a decent "small" map that you could later expand to medium or large once an improvement to console generation has been made.
Most of the comparison issues between pocket and console I put down to pocket not needing to act as a server for 8 people - most complainers don't recognise how significant that is. But the terrain generation difference is not a performance-based concern this time, as has been theorised it's to give PS360's tiny world the most biomes possible. Not sure that explains why the mountains are garbage, the beaches frozen, the oceans huge and almost all deep (so no clay) and so on. Basically, it's not finished.
In addition to this, the terrain cuts off at the very edge of the world sometimes. This means that there are Taiga trees that are sliced in half or ores that cannot be mined.
But I found a seed with a village on Wii U, plus an even mix of hot/cold biomes so I'm set
Huh. Something like 5000 views, a forum thread in agreement, and no news. Truly fixing the biome generation is like a unicorn! Both do not seem to exist, yet have legions of fans...
Sorry if that sounded a bit snarky, I really wish we could get at least acknowledgement that there is a problem. There is no way that the devs are loading up random seeds on the One and thinking "Yeah, that looks right."

And see now you make me feel like a total jerk, 4JSteve! Sorry for the whiny-ranty whinerant (new word I just made up, does rantwhine sound better?). It is saying something that the community is so vocal about the things that take us away from our favorite activity: playing Minecraft. Sometimes we get upset when the people that we spend more time with than our families seem to be unresponsive. Sometimes we say things in the heat of the moment. We regret them in time. It has to be said that the passion born of frustration at what is perceived as game-breaking issues comes out of a true love of this game. If we didn't want to play so bad, we wouldn't get so angry when we couldn't!

Don't worry though - I have a list as long as my arm of things I'm also as passionate about.
I'll try and keep you updated on the progress of the Biome changes when we begin work on them.

I was joking with the wife that sometimes we seem like little kids on these forums. Our toy is broken, and we want someone to fix it, so we can play again. Sometimes passion overrides manners.
Again, sorry to come off like a little kid, but I want my toy back!
Thank you again for the acknowledgement. It is refreshing to hear that it is being addressed. This confirmation really made my day!
Well the Amplifed Worlds require a beefy computer cause they take long to generate...
Maybe the max world height is smaller on consoles due to this.
