I have a villager breeding contraption set up ~100 blocks away from my normal village and the newly created villagers get sent, via water, to my normal village. The two villagers at the breeding area, which usually breed very often, have plenty of hearts coming from them but have not created a new villager in quite a long time. Is there a population cap on villagers? Any way around it?
Yes there is a cap, its around 50 villagers. There is a way around it, and that is to go far enough away from other villagers that they unload, setup another breeder and your back in business. Then you can transport the villagers to another location that already has the cap and in so doing you get around the cap.

Hope this makes since and helps.
I get over the cap by curing Zombie Villagers, there's a few ways to get over the 50...
