This is not to say that I think the mob cap is ok, I definitely want the mob cap upped, but I like having a skeleton spawner farm as an XP farm, and the side benefit is not only are you getting boatloads of XP for hanging out and doing nothing, but also, more arrows than you will ever know what to do with. The hardest part is finding your skeleton spawner to begin with.
what kind of design does your farm use? i cant find a skeli spawner to save my bacon in my world! i have a Great world with lots of other goodies in it but i feel like i am missing it somewhere....where is the best places to look usually? i play survival only and if you ever wanted to show me your setup or need any help i would be glad to lend a hand and maybe you could return the favor. in case you ever wanted to.
A common problem ive run into over the years is when passive mobs get stuck on cliff edges, or even trapped in small caves, these take up some of the mob limit and make it difficult to have productive farms, every now then i have to go on culling missions just to breed my cows.
Ive recently set up an auto-chicken cooker but with the current limit it doesn't even get close to its full potential, im not sure why the limit didn't get increased with the xbox one version, maybe there's a reason for it or they had time constraints, either way the mob limit is something that all of us would greatly appreciate getting increased.
This is the EXACT issue which has the greatest effect on the pathetically small mob cap. All around my home there are cliff edges just a block across, as you say, and there are sheep, pigs, chickens et al stuck up there. And of course, with the rule about mobs only despawning if they can move more than twenty blocks in a direction, they stay there unless I go up and kill them.
I suppose a quick-fix solution would be to extend all the single blocks by an extra block, but I can't do this for everywhere in the world.
That behaviour is a problem in it's self, but the mob cap being so ridiculously low for X1 is insane. We have (gross) 16x the RAM for crying out loud. There's no point in a bigger world if it caters for the same population - everything just becomes more spread out, and the mob cap more apparent.
This doesn't just affect farming, but also hunting, and the general atmosphere of the world.
So if i am understanding you correctly you are saying that by leaving then rejoining the world with the proper food in hand you can spawn more animals for the first 60 to 120 seconds?? Can anyone verify this since i will be stuck at work for while?
After doing some more testing on this. I have found out it does eventually not let you breed. But this is after i have about 50 cows in pen and 20 sheep. Each time i exit now the time i have to breed gets shorter and shorter. At least it allows you to get a large amount of animals in one area. But is not infinite.
I have a quick fix to allow more animals to spawn. Ok so....
1. You just got the message animal breed limit reached.
2. Exit game next to pen with breeding food in hand.
3. Once you start game back up you should be able to breed them for the first min. Or so.
4. You will get the breed limit message but i have been able to keep a nice steady stream of animals going.
Hope this helps.
Also i do agree they need to raise the mob limits.
This is awesome. I guess we are taking advantage of the game whilst it loads the chunks and animals into RAM. This would be why it gets shorter each time, as the first chunk loaded it's where your animals are gathered :-)
Here's another helping hint to increase your passive mob counts within your minecraft world...
Use both the Nether and the End.
Mob Caps are per dimension, so if you reach you cap in the overworld with chickens, take a couple stacks of eggs and head into the nether... Voila you can now breed up your chickens to get more, then take another couple of stacks and head to the End, guess what? you can now breed more little chickens.
Now that you have active chicken farms in all three dimensions, do the same for cows/pigs/sheep.
All the work put into my mob farms almost for nothing because the cap is so low, plz increase
XP farms are my biggest concern. The timed mob count, (notice how you only get so many mobs at once), as well as the super low number of mobs for any xp farm is absolutely horrendous! Enderman Farm takes over ten minutes to reach level 30. It used to be just over 1 minute.
25 or 26 Enderman, then you have to wait another 10-13 minutes for another 25. So not only is the cap low, but there is a time limit.
Great... another update is coming with more stuff to not work and another mob. That's going to cut down on the counts again. XP Farms are almost pointless without a huge increase of the cap.
I have several passive farms and they all work fine with the mob cap. I make them in different areas of my world. As long as the other chunks are not loaded each one has its own passive mob cap. I also have spawn completely mob proof with mycelium. Too bad I didn't find out spawn chunks do not act the same on console as they do on PC until many months after lol

Passive Mobs... not really an issue. The main concern is the Aggressive Mobs, especially in mob farms. The trickle of mobs at a time and the over all amount. Read my post on page two for more details. We will see how much the cap is affected with new mobs when the update releases. There was no mention of either passive or aggressive mob cap increase in the change log.
I don't really play survival all to much anymore, however, the cap on Item Frames & Paintings ticks me off. Those really need to be updated, along with this for you guys.
I honestly think Microsoft is so sad and such a shame to the gaming community. If ark survival can render dinos and not have then despawn with such a large map. Why can't MCONE do it? I mean the devs at ark are indie and mojang is not they're getting paid top dollar to be lazy.

Still need to increase all caps. So many people are tired of the counts. XP farms are painstakingly slow... still. We need a petition!

Kellen 21,

Yes that is what im saying. Was sceptical at first also. Tried it when i was getting the animal breed limit message. And it worked
cool thanks for the advice Kellen21!
Now obviously your animals have to be able to breed. You cant just start and exit start and exit. It only works if animals are able to breed.

INCREASE THE MOB CAP!
Yes, I too think that the mob cap is very low and should be increased
More mob cap increase support please!

Yeah they must increase mob count and make it just like the PC version, for XB1/PS4 atleast.
