For one, I would like to know why I was prompted to update, seeing as of this post the last update was a couple weeks ago and I last played yesterday. Second, the lag is absolutely horrendous, and this is just getting to the menu, let alone trying to play.
I got prompted yesterday, its a mystery update, theres no changelog, no comment from 4j, nothing that tells us what its for. I was kinda excited, I thought for a second we got the aquatic update as a surprise, I did some searching around and ibxtoycat made a video yesterday, which basically says what I just did, and thats all I found.
As for the lag, yah, I noticed, my survival world is pretty bad, but playable. I opened a test world yesterday too with big iron farms in it and its not running at 20 tps in a superflat with the 32 or 64 village farms building, and once they're built its still stuttery if your looking at them.
This isn't the first time an update has lagged out the game, and subsequent updates improved the situation quite a bit, I hope this will be the case this time. Fighting mobs that suddenly jump four blocks because of lag is infuriating.
Edit: you were promoted because it was there, thats how it works, you can decline the update, but it disconnects you from xbox live while playing Minecraft until you update.
Did the same thing to me. The menu was so slow that I had to reset a couple of times. When the game finally got running it put me right in the tutorial world which barely moved. I just had to turn it off. Guess we'll just have to wait for the next update to fix it.
Something like that happened to me too. But I got terrible lag before an update. It was so bad I couldn’t even get past the title screen. But when I updated it to the most recent update, it took away all my previous updates and took me back to the original version.
Then there was a problem with the download. That happens when an update isn't downloaded or installed properly. To fix it from the main menu select 'Options' and then 'Reinstall Content'. It should then delete and re download all dlc for the game and it'll be the same laggy mess we all got.

Was anyone else prompted to update today?

I think I will wait upon the aquatic update and wait on the subsequent reviews to see if it makes everything wonderful or bricks the 360
Based on recent history its goanna be a brick.. Until four bugfix updates later.
