That is genius! Wow, you may have discovered the quickest way to make a squid farm too, as there isn't any prep work, you just place the sugarcane and your done. Item collection would be tricky but not impossible. I'm definately playing around with this concept, thanks for sharing!
Because sugercane can be placed in water, the squids fall in the sugercane and commit suicide.
