Twice this week in 2 of my worlds I have came across this red creature (looks exactly like an endermen) which when I look directly at it runs superfast around my screen, running directly at me then back and forth, left & right really really quickly before just seemingly vanishing into thin air... Has anybody came across this before or have any idea what it may be? I'm using minecraft xbox 360 edition, latest software & both times been playing offline multiplayer when this crazy endermen has appeared...
Was it raining? Endermen take damage (which turns them red), and teleport when hit by water, even rain. (Im basing this off of the PC edition, so please excuse if my statement doesnt apply.)

It is said that music can evoke emotion. Pretty powerful stuff, this world.

It's Herobrine!!1!
Nah, just kidding. It was more than likely just raining.
I hadn't thought of that but no it wasn't raining at the time, a thunderstorm did however start after it disappeared the 2nd time, it had red eyes like a spider & the only thing I can think of that I'd done in common both times was that I'd just finished killing off animals for food...
i'm not sure if it was a bug or it randomly died but thinking of it over & over it most definantly wasn't raining but i did see alot of other mobs afterwards, 4 spiders, 3 skeletons so possibly theyve made it so our enemies will randomly die for new ones to spawn?
If it just started happening in the 1.4.4 update, it might be squid. I think they tweaked it so that squid (who have a tendency to get stuck on land sometimes) will start taking damage when they are out of the water.
Otherwise, it's probably just an enderman. Sometimes they fall in the water, which makes them red. Then there's rain.

I just got the new titled update 6 for xbox version & it has happened again twice & was most definantly wasn't raining....
My bet is that it "wasn't raining" in that the audio for rain wasn't playing and the raindrop particles weren't being rendered, but the game was still telling itself that it was raining and the enderman was reacting appropriately. In other words, a glitch. May be worth a bug report as it could be a nuisance.
I think all the other things you noticed (other mobs, that you were killing animals for food) is just coincidence and pattern-seeking. After all, if you weren't outside gathering food, you would probably have been mining or building and wouldn't have seen the enderman acting strangely and hostile mobs do tend to spawn outside at night.
Though, I do like the "new form of minecraft life" theory. Predator with cloaking killing endermen.....
I've seen it before too. It's just an enderman that is constantly teleporting, apparently from some invisible damage since when I see it there is no rain.
Perhaps From my knowledge an enderman spawned and maybe was attacked by water you probably took off Weather And from what i know it probably died from that rain and you didn't notice and Quick Teleportation when Enderman's take water is normal and you probably made direct contact so it was trying to avoid rain and attack you so teleported back and fourth avoiding rain and attacking you at the same time with you not noticing that rain was probably off for you but somehow enderman's take the effect still and eventually died
And Since you said it died more mobs spawned probably because.
There's a maxium number of monsters on xbox so it probably ran out of space then when the enderman died
Mobs had a chance to spawn since.
Endermans do the most damage in Minecraft. of all mobs in the OverWorld Except preety much Creepers.
Physically Endermans are the strongest mobs in the overWorld.
So they're spawning Rate is Less then other mobs since skeletons aren't as strong same to zombies.
And creepers are good damage but easy to defeat so they're spawning rate's Higher then Endermen.
Now I tested all these facts so this should be the issue test you're minecraft weather next time and you're problem should end.
But if this doesn't solve the problem i don't understand why it should do that
And sometimes minecraft weather bugs out causing it to rain without u see'ing the rain urself but still effecting mobs which i experienced for myself.
On any other Perspectives i don't understand anything that would cause this misunderstanding.

OR maybe we've discovered new minecraft life! Clearly I'm correct.

He clearly wrote he's using the xbox version...
Meh.
I remember when the word herobrine was mentioned on these forums you basically were awarded the death penalty and an infraction haha.
