I've been playing my survival world for several years now, and it contains many automated farms, a hopper delivery line and an item sorter, so I get many resources delivered automatically to chests in my base. Since TU54 came out, I've noticed that some of those resources are no longer coming through. Most of the automated farms are created from community designs published here, or on the wiki, or on YouTube.
Sugarcane Farm
The sugarcane farm was designed by FedXGaming and used a BUD sensor, which broke in TU54. FedX has posted a new design (), which now uses the new Observer block, which I've now built in my survival world to replace the old BUD-based sugarcane farm.
Wheat/Carrot/Potato/Beetroot Farms
The wheat, carrot, potato, and beetroot farms were designed by CR3WProductions (), and uses villagers to plant and harvest the crops, with a minecart and rail system underneath to collect the drops. There has always been issues with this farm, and I've modified the design slightly, by adding a water deluge system above it to force the harvesting of carrots, potatoes, and beetroot, once every two days. The re-planting of beetroot also has never worked properly, and I often end up re-planting the beetroot myself. However, these farms all broke with the TU54 update.
Things I've observed since the TU54 update:
In all four of my main farms which are instances of this design (wheat, potato, carrot, beetroot), the minecarts are still running.
In all of them, the minecart appears to be running strangely, including appearing to be slightly off the tracks, or running through the end brick after the hopper/powered rail.
The minecarts are all empty.
The wheat farm, which until TU54 was the only one that worked perfectly, without the need for a timed water deluge to harvest it, is now not being harvested at all. The wheat grows unimpeded through to the full yellow stalks. Prior to TU54, this farm looked like a raggedy patchwork of half-grown wheat stalks, as it was constantly being harvested and replanted by the villager.
Both the carrot and potato farms now look raggedy and patchworked. I've turned off the timed water deluge system, and the villagers seem to be doing their thing quite happily, harvesting and planting.
The only thing coming out from the farms, collectively, is poisonous potatoes. The poisonous potatoes reach my item sorter, but there is no wheat, no seeds, no carrots, no potatoes, no beetroot, and no beetroot seeds coming out from the farms.
The beetroot farm continues, as it did prior to TU54, to not be being harvested at all by the villager. The wheat farm and the beetroot farm now look almost identical ... fully grown, not harvested.
Things I've checked:
There are no new wooden doors anywhere near my farms. I only use iron doors or wooden gates, not wooden doors.
The toggle switches I implemented to pause harvest delivery, on the block beside the hopper/powered rail, are all disabled, so the farms should still be delivering their harvest through my hopper lines to my item sorter.
It seems that CR3W is not around any more, and I'd really like to keep this design as close to the original as possible, as it mostly works. Will these issues be fixed automatically by Mojang/4J in a subsequent update/bugfix, or should I start looking for other solutions? Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi, I'm Augur and I'm from New Zealand (NZ). Just call me "Augur". I'm an older person playing Minecraft Xbox 360 Legacy Console Edition without Xbox Gold (no online gaming, sorry), so please don't hate on the old. ๐
The other farms may have the same problem and the villagers haven't filled their inventories back up yet.
Again, wouldn't just throwing potatoes, carrots, or beetroot seeds fix this? I'll give it a try myself, and let you know how I went. But thanks for the reply. I do hope they fix this (again) soon.
Edit...
Okay, I've had a go with the wheat farm only, so far. I started by entirely clearing off the existing crop, using my deluge system. I have a whole double-chest-load of wheat seeds outside the door to the farm (along with a stone hoe, for emergency patch-up jobs) so I stopped the minecart delivery system using my switch on the block beside the hopper/powered rail, then I chucked about 30 stacks of wheat to the farmer. He seems to have missed quite a lot of it, because when I checked the minecart underneath the farm, it was completely full of seeds. However, the farmer did start planting. Barely. Maybe 10% of the farm is now planted with wheat. There is still a whole lot of standing around doing nothing, going on though, like he doesn't have any seeds left. I can only account for 5x64 stacks of seeds in the hopper, and about half a stack that the farmer planted. Where did the rest of the seeds I threw to the farmer go? They didn't despawn, as I was nearby and would have picked them up myself. You may be right, replacing this farmer might be the only solution. But any idea why? It's like he only has a single inventory slot now, and that's why he's not harvesting, as he perhaps still has some seeds in his pocket, so can't collect wheat as well. Or maybe his other inventory slots are black holes, like holes in his pockets, and anything that goes into them just disappears from the game. That would also explain the carrot and potato farmers' antics. They can replant, at least, from harvesting a single fully-grown plant, but any excess gets picked up by the farmer before the minecart/hopper can collect it, but it then disappears into the aether, in the hole in the farmers' pockets. It's weird.

When it comes to beetroot and wheat the farmer can only have seeds in his inventory. When his inventory got reset he probably picked up some of the wheat, and turned it into bread. This fills inventory slots making it so that he cannot pick up the seeds. Beetroot is the same way. A villager has 8 inventory slots, so it seems like a black hole, like the items disappear, but they do not, they are just filling inventory slots with full stacks. A farmer will also only plant a certain percentage of his inventory (not sure what it is exactly), so if they only have a small amount of seeds or crops in their inventory then they will not plant or only plant a couple plots. Giving the carrot and potato villagers more of each crop should fix those farms, or you could just afk there overnight with the water collection off, so that they can replenish their inventory, and it will go back to working like normal. Beetroot and wheat though will need new villagers as there is no way to get them to empty their inventory completely. When you replace them make sure they pick up 8 stacks of seeds each to maximize reliability.
This will likely keep happening with new updates, and occasionally it just happens out of nowhere. I gave up on farming wheat this way because of it (and I don't really have a use for beetroot so I never built a farm for that).
Ok, so I found some time to browse the bugtracker and found this issue reported, and marked as fixed in tu56, which is the next update. You were 100% correct, their inventory is a black hole. If it were me, I'd wait untill that update before doing anything with the farms. Sorry if I wasted your time.
That's great news, thanks so much, Tom. I hadn't started swapping out the villagers yet, as that requires vast quantities of wood for fences, which I'm a little low on at present. So I'll hold off on that for now, at your advice. Thanks, you've actually saved me the time and effort of replacing the villagers.
I was hoping to have my farms working, as I have a gaming session next week with my young cousin, and I was hoping to show off my automated farms and the hopper delivery system and item sorter. It isn't quite so impressive when many of the resources aren't coming through. My little cousin should be impressed with what I've built though, as a Minecrafter himself, he'll be understanding of updates that break things. Fingers crossed. At least I have the sugarcane farm working again, and the melons & pumpkins never did break after TU54, even though FedX has published a new melon & pumpkin farm design using Observer blocks. My mob grinder is a bit sluggish, despite being 5 floors of darkness, edged with folded trapdoors, leading down to a waterway terminating at a dead-drop tower with hoppers at the bottom. In theory it should work, but I think I need to light up more of the surrounding area, to encourage more mobs to spawn within the mob grinder itself.

I'm having trouble making a new farms as of this update. I normally just do the villager wheat farm to make bread. I started a new world with this update and noticed my farm doesn't work. I tried it twice thinking I did something wrong. What I have noticed is even when I fill up the villagers inventory with seed he still picks up wheat. I gave him stacks of seed till it was full and he wouldn't take anymore..8 stacks...and he still picks up wheat. Tried this twice each time same thing happened.
I've now got TU56, but it doesn't seem that the vegetable famine of TU54 is over yet! My wheat farmer accepted stacks of seeds from me, and started planting again properly. However, he hasn't yet harvested anything, despite there being several ears of fully-grown wheat in his field. Prior to TU54, the potato and carrot farmers acted this way, only planting, not harvesting. I wonder if, since TU56, the behaviour of the potato and carrot farmers is now being copied by the wheat farmer? Back before TU54, the beetroot farmer neither planted nor harvested. I have a deluge system in place to solve the harvesting problem, by flooding the fields once every two days, but prior to TU54 I didn't need it for the wheat field. Now it seems I will, even since TU56 supposedly fixed this.

The minecart thing is goanna get fixed.
The wheat farm likely needs the villager replaced, his inventory probably got reset with the update, and beetroot is probably the same thing.
The other farms may have the same problem and the villagers haven't filled their inventories back up yet.
Thanks for the reply, Tom.
That is good to know. I'm sure I remember this happening before, with another update.
So why does the farmer need replacing? Can't I just chuck him a load of wheat seeds to re-fill his inventory?
