Hey guys, anyone else on 360 only able to get 4 baby chickens from chicken eggs?
I'm trying to build an egg farm that auto throws and cooks chickens, should be pretty easy, but as I or a dispenser throw the eggs once I reach 4 specifically no more will hatch. It's not a spawn limit issue I've even turned off mob spawning and ran around the map a bit to despawn most of the animals in the world. It's always 4 and I can even go to the other end of the map and not make more if those 4 exist.
I have thrown enough eggs too. Hundreds.... Any thoughts?
There are trapped animals somewhere. If they can't move more than 20 blocks they will not despawn, and there can only be like 20 or 25 total in a loaded area. This is an issue for all of us. Honestly you get more chicken from a decent pigman farm than you do a chicken farm.
I can still breed regular chickens tho it's strictly an issue with the eggs. In addition its not even just in the loaded area if i have 4 "hatched egg chickens" i can go to the other end of the map and still cannot make more. I cannot hatch more eggs untill the previous ones die anywhere in the world. even after they grow up they still count. Also I just tried using the chicken eggs in the nether n that was fine.
Chunks don't unload on old gen, moving to the other end of the map doesn't help anything, in fact it usually makes things worse by loading other animals. It works in the nether because there are no animals there. It also works in the end, for the same reason. The way the caps work is not fully understood because 4j doesn't provide us with anything in the way of technical info in their change logs. Its possible that egg spawns are counted differently than breeding spawns. And thats why you can only get four in the overworld from eggs. Most of us have completely given up on breeding animals. Its much more productive to farm passive spawns with some type of auto farm or prepared hunting ground.
If you continue to test this and come to any conclusions or form any hypothesis I'd be interested to know what you come up with.
I have a prepared hunting ground in my survival world. Its where a small island that was jungle and savannah was, I mined it flat and simply hunt passive spawns there. There is ocean and deep ocean all around it, creating an effective perimeter where no other animals are loaded. I go there, re-log and run around and kill the passive spawns. I keep thinking about building an auto farm, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Update: Just tested this on my test world and no problem, had like 15 of the lil dudes. Back to my other world.... 4.
