So I've checked a lot of places but all of them were old posts and old sites. So I would like to know an updated answer to this question. I made a world and in the bonus chest is 4 jungle tree saplings. I haven't explored the whole world yet but I would like to know:
1. Is it possible for cocoa beans to grow on planted saplings
2. If not, what are all the ways of obtaining them, and
3. I read somewhere that there's a 1 in 200 chance that the leaves of a jungle tree will drop cocoa beans, but it was in like 2013. Was this true, and if so, is it still possible?
Cocoa beans don't grow on planted saplings. You need a jungle biome in order to get them. They used to be in loot chests, but I believe thats no longer the case. If cocoa beans are a must have for you then check out the seeds section of the forum. Its always a good idea to search any seed you pick in creative mode and then start a new world with the seed after you've made sure it has what you want. The world generation algorithm has changed a little in the past few updates.
I'm not sure why they did that, it may not have even been intended. We've had a buggy past few months, and they're still trying to work out the problems, hopefully one day they'll give them back to us.
