That happened to me about 3 years ago. The dogs would be assigned to one name and wouldn't recognize the new name, even though it is the same account. I don't recall hearing this ever being "fixed."

my sister was on her survival world, and her dog (Sparky) WOULD NOT STAND UP!!! she owns the dog, but she wont stand up. Can someone plz help??!!
Check your controls and see the control for placing a block. Try doing the control after that if it's different to what she was doing.
Try reloading into the world. That fixed it for me when I had this issue.

The same control is used for the sit/follow command and the feed command, so make sure she's not holding something dogs can eat
