How many grass blocks does it take for them to spawn?Do I need to lay "concrete" everywhere .The wiki says they spawn on grass blocks with a light level of 9 or more
Passive mobs will spawn on a single grass block in the correct biome. To prevent spawns you will have to remove any grass blocks in the area where you don't want animals.
If you don't need grass blocks anywhere then you can just do without them, and fence off the area to keep them from wandering in.
You can place blocks they won't spawn on, like cobblestone, and put green carpet on top. It won't look exactly like grass, but might be close enough depending on the build and lighting levels.
You can build pens and breed animals until you hit the caps. No more will spawn then, and you can use grass wherever you like, but won't get any spawning anywhere else either.
