So my two friends and I were playing on an online world together where I built a floating house. We had gone into the Nether and my one friend (Zelkai) had kept the Wither Skull that we found in his inventory (more on that in a bit).
My other friend went to leave the world but stayed in the party chat, while Zelkai and I stayed on the world. He suddenly had to go hell with some house chores and, because it was his world, he didn't edit and went AFK.
For 5 straight minutes nothing happened, but an odd thing happened that I couldn't see Zelkai's GT in its usual spot where he hid himself in case he didn't get back before the evening. I thought nothing of it at that time however and continued to work on my house. However, when I climbed up my ladder, the doors to my house (originally closed) were now open. Sitting right there was the Wither Skull, staring at me (creepy sounding, I know).
I called out to Zelkai thinking he had come back and was trolling me, but I only heard an echo signalling he wasn't there. I gathered the Wither Skull and just ignored what happened. Then I suddenly saw Zelkai wandering around on the ground below me. I climbed down and called out again, asking if he was back. Still an echo.
It looked exactly like him; same skin, same GT, same armour and weapon. So, I tested him and hit him to see if he would yelp or shout or something to give him away. But nothing came. The instant I hit him he went into full battle mode and even if I paused he didn't, and usually he stops when I do. So I attacked him until I killed him. He INSTANTLY respawned, no pauses or anything. And he didn't spawn at his bed, either!
I quickly climbed back up to my house to 'escape' him. As time passed he continued to do things such as drown himself, swim in lava, and fall from high places. I decided to go back down and see what was going on. When I got down I immediately saw his GT behind a pile of dirt blocks. He was crouching as if hiding from me. As soon as he looked at me he immediately brought out his iron sword and started attacking me! I attacked him, and during the fight I heard in my headset footsteps meaning that Zelkai was coming back. I killed him and his headset was being put on, and he shouted at me "WHY DID YOU KILL ME?!".
When I told him the story he didn't believe me at all! It's been nearly a year and yet I still haven't let it go. Zelkai recalls when looking on the map he saw three people and not two, and when I pressed the 'back' button there was only Zelkai and I.
He had nobody else but he and his mom in his house on that day, and I still have a hard time believing him but I also still think it could've been Herobrine, despite him being a complete hoax. What do you guys think?
(As a note; we have never modded, used glitches, or hacked our games or our X360's, so that can't be the case.)
Well the likelihood that Herobrine has been added to the game is very low.
The most likely thing is that you were trolled by someone. All the things you described are very easy to do with host options, though the respawning sounds weird, did he fall over dead, or just disappear? how quickly did he reappear? 3 seconds? they could have flown pretty quickly with host options on.
It being his skin and gamertag points toward it being Zelkai, or someone in his house. The fact that he claimed seing 3 people online, makes it more likely that it is him.
though he would have to be VERY clever to make footsteps and all those sounds, while being there the whole time.
He respawned INSTANTLY! And there was nobody in his house other than he and his mother and heard him at a distance while I was still fighting! He didn't even respawn at his bed either! The other weird thing was, none of his stuff that he had in his inventory was destroyed when he died in lava! And now that I think about it, he did kind of just disappear after I killed him.
Well excuse me for telling a story. Listen, it couldn't have been him or even anyone else in the house because a) he was the only one at home and b- I heard him walking to the tv while I was still fighting him!
If people are smart enough to know about Herobrine, then they should also have the intelligence to know HE DOES NOT EXIST!!!!!!!! So sick of people thinking they are going to dupe someone

Do not post hoaxes on the forums, such as posts about Herobrine. Herobrine has never been, nor is currently in any version of Minecraft. If you know it's a hoax, you should know it is not real.

The most obvious answer is generally the correct one. Was it some made up being that has never existed or was it your friend messing with you?
They really should put much more emphasis on critical thinking skills in school.
