there are random village wells that sometimes spawn, so i think that they should stay in, but be a little uncommon. maybe treasure could be found at the bottom?

The wells are not random, but are actually the entire village itself. When a village spawns, you are always guaranteed to get the well. It's just that you wont necessarily get any other buildings to spawn in your world.
Are they really that much of a problem? I'm with TheOriginalStanJr, if I want, I use them as a starting point for a village of my own design or an abandoned farmstead, or a castle courtyard (every castle needs a well, right?), etc. Afterall, the equally lonely Desert Well is an intentional structure in the game (I use those for oases). Otherwise, they take about 5 seconds to remove and fill in with whatever other terrain I want in that spot.
I don't think we need anymore structures that provide treasure chests. It would mean that there would be a treasure chest in every village well, regardless of whether or not the village itself spawned around it. There's so much loot lying around in chests in the game already, I hardly get excited over finding them anymore.

ah, but you dont get what i mean. they could be a structure of their own and have treasure at the bottom, or a trap.
Edit: also it seems like you are on every post. it's creepy lol

They could be... but why bother? They could throw a treasure into the bottom of just the Desert Wells instead. An we already have Jungle and Desert temple traps in the game.
Because the other wells are actually entire villages just without the buildings (because the game doesn't find sufficient room in that spot to spawn a larger village), they would have to either force them to spawn with every village as well or you would wind up with some villages spawning without wells. If you keep the same old treasure-less village well in villages... you're still going to have those spawn on their own because they are actually entire building-less villages already. The only other way to avoid having them spawn on their own would be to force every well to spawn with at least 1 building... and in that case, every village would have that same building next to their well because the two structures would become one structure in the code. The reason that Mojang enabled the wells to spawn by themselves is to enable villages to spawn with a different assortment of buildings in them each time... only the well is present in every village.

Oh ok. (still is creepy how you are on almost every post...)

I like to use them to build new villages from scratch. I set up a perimeter fence and a zombie curing building and then begin to populate.
But I'm always a fan of treasure...
Hmmmmm... a zombie curing building? how do you get the gold for the golden apples?

So technically they are random, as they are village wells without a village.

Mostly mining around the lava pits, but I also set up a nearby Nether portal to go Pigmen hunting. Great for getting XP and Gold.
