Before TU31 I wanted to harvest cobwebs in survival. A few YouTube tutorials said Silk Touch book on some shears via anvil would do the trick. So after some serious grinding in survival to get the book, I tried it on the anvil and found out that , among many other things, enchanting shears at all only worked in creative. If anyone knows for sure if in TU31 Survival you can harvest cobwebs by any method , please post below. If you are not positive , please do not send me on an impossible mission. Thanks in advance.
Well the wiki says "Cobwebs can be obtained by mining them using shears or a sword enchanted with Silk Touch. It will drop 1 piece of string if the shears or sword are not enchanted Silk Touch, and will drop nothing when broken using anything else."
I'm surprised it only works in creative for you.

Well, I'm going off the fact that until 1.9 arrives on PC, we're pretty much on the same level when it comes to updates. Minus a few small things. If I get a chance, I'll have to look into this on my world.

My bad guys. I guess I should have been more specific. If you have personally had a tool that can harvest a cobweb as a block in survival, since the tu31 update, please let me know.
Perfect, Thank you so much. I now have a job to do. I tried this before tu31 and after a very long time searching for the book, the anvil would not place the enchantment on shears.Gotta go kill some villagers now . Thanks again.

The wiki is generally answers based in pc version. The wiki said the same thing pre tu31 and it didn't work then. Thanks for the reply though.

I just tried to put shears and a book with Efficiency V, Silk I, and it worked just fine. Did you put the shears in first....?

Retired StaffI think the issue isn't with enchanting, but obtaining the Cobwebs as an item.

Oh, my mistake. I hung up the game for tonight, so I'll see what I can find out tomorrow.

Nah it was definitely my mistake, sorry about that.
I did the following:
1.) Obtain a book with Silk.
2.) Make shears.
3.) Use an anvil and 13 levels to apply the book to the shears.
4.) Find web.
5.) Smack web.
6.) Obtain web.
I have no issues getting them in pure survival.
