Since Mojang has killed the x-ray vision glitch, how are you guys finding spawners and mine shafts now? For me, when searching for new maps, I would always load a "lab" version of a map and explore it in creative mode first to see if the map was even worth trying and a key part of that for me was being able to easily find spawners and mines. I also tend to build my home/castle/whatever atop of a good spawner so when I need to enchant items I simply have to slide down a ladder to the spawner farm I had setup. But now that x-ray is gone, what are you guys using on consoles now?
I habitually dig a string of 1 x 2 transportation tunnels underground (usually at Y12 as a base - lowest tunnels) with cross-tunnels every so often. This ultimately forms the basis for my underground railway system and even without the railroad, facilitates quicker travel between points on the map than going over all the terrain above ground (I can make it a very safe way of traveling as well by blocking off the tunnels from adjacent caves. I often find spawners and other things by either hearing them (i.e. a consistent mob sound at certain points in the tunnels) and/or just exploring the caves I intersect with these tunnels before I block them off. If a find a spawner in a location that interests me for turning it into an XP farm, I'll just note the location, leave a connecting tunnel open to it, and work on making the XP farm later. I really only need one; particularly if it's a skeleton (for arrows)... although with villagers trading in rotten flesh, zombie spawners are more desirable to me now.

I just go caving and dig to the surface whenever I run into one. Since there's now a lit up death hole in the ground, I can return to it whenever (or more likely never!).
Oh, I'm very much an elder adult (retired); but I don't have an online profile of my own... and my son (whose also very much an adult) doesn't allow me to borrow his profile really except to occasionally play with very close friends and family (and that's gotten even rarer now that the little ones I used to play with are now into their teens). My son is not a liker of Minecraft (he's been into shooters mostly) so he doesn't want his friends to "see" his profile playing Minecraft very much. So, sorry, playing with people from here online for me right now is not an option.
The first think I do is generally dig an access down to Y12 from somewhere in or around my home base (this may be a straight stairway or a circular one or a ladder access, just depending on how I'm feeling at the time). Then I tunnel straight along Y12 to the nearest "outside" perimeter wall of the world. Then, I start digging around the perimeter of the world along Y12 just one block in (that way I can finish the outside wall of the tunnel with whatever I want - usually smooth stone - when I'm done). Diamonds can be found at Y12 (as all other ores), so this perimeter tunnel will invariably encounter many diamonds and other resources.
As I go, I also explore any caves I intersect and I might also dig cross tunnels between various points in the world (depending on what I might be thinking of building on the surface (e.g. connecting villages, interesting terrain, etc.). I find that going up in caves from Y12 rather than going down in caves from the surface is more productive mining since all the ores generate at the lower levels and since so many caves on the surface seem to dead end at a fairly high Y level). My initial railway is generally just iron rails and I use furnace minecarts to go about or to move gear about underground.
Eventually, if I stay with the world long enough, I'll make my key tunnels into 3 x 3 ones and start to build powered rails and underground rail switch stations and such. In reality, I seldom get this far with the whole system it since by then another major update rolls out and I end up abandoning my old world for a new one.

Understood. Your description was very comprehensive , thank you.

Basically same here. My tunnels are 1x3 and I place a jackolantern in the floor skip 2 blocks then another on and on. I do that with my main trunk line so I know the jacks are where I want cross tunnels for mining and they provide light. When mining these lines I come across caves or ravines to explore and that's where I find mines and spawners.

I've seen you talk about these tunnels a couple times on this forum. I would really like to check one out sometime with maybe a quick tour , not to use up much of your time.. Specifically the seed we are both playing on. http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-xbox-360-edition/mcx360-discussion/mcx360-seeds/2580989-tu31-mesa-village-sea-temple-all-6-trees If you are up for it my . I am an adult, so if you are not , I was just kidding.

Stay fluffy~

i just load up a random world in creative mode and see what i can find
and speaking of mineshafts, i actually found a seed with a lot of stuff, but i will post a thread about that with more details, but here is the seed
