Hey guys, need some help. My kids lately tried to redownload the Halloween skin/texture pack. They are now saying that they can only load the game in survival mode. I don't really play and can't help them out. I am thinking some late patch may have just changed how you get to creative. This has all happened within the last week or so. Can someone help us out on how to get back to being creative?
*edit They also say if they load a previous save it reverts to survival and they lose anything they built. Again, just ging off their word, but they know way more than I do.
Sounds like they interrupted the title update so that it did not completely download (but maybe interrupting a TP update also messes things up). This would arbitrarily put the game back at TU9 (when the disk version was released). Unfortunately, once they've opened a world that had been previously opened/saved in any update later than TU9, those game save files are probably totally corrupted... no retrieving what they've built unless you had manually made a backup save on a USB stick or in the Cloud.
To properly update the game at this point, you should probably 1) make a backup of any important worlds to a USB stick or the Cloud (just in case). This is done by copying the game save files in the Minecraft folder (Xbox Home - Settings - System - Storage - Hard Drive (or where you store your downloads) - Games and Apps - Minecraft - Select "Saved Game" files - Copy (NOTE: You have to be signed in with the profile that create each world you want to copy. For example, if Profile X created a world, only Profile X can copy it... or delete it, etc.). 2) then, if you see a file entitle "Minecraft Title Update," delete it. (ETA - You might also want to clear your system cache at this point) 3) Try launching Minecraft while signed in with a Live enabled profile. It should prompt you to update... and this time be sure to allow the update to properly complete. IF it does not prompt you to update, you may have to go back and delete the game itself (if you're playing with a download version) and then redownload it from the Xbox Live Arcade marketplace (you should not have to pay for it again). You should also redownload the TP. 4) Once the update is complete, start new fresh Tutorial World and make sure that it's the current tutorial (world should have a Mesa biome visible after you complete the short basic tutorial part and leave the first tutorial area) and then make sure that the game is functioning correctly. 5) Finally, you can reload the worlds that you backed up (if necessary) and try to start them up to see if they are back to normal (I'm not holding my breath on that though - usually people report that they won't load or still load empty).

Thanks. We updated (again/finally) and everything seems to be fixed. I really appreciate the help.
