Hey folks, so today mojang released an update where you can play with mcpe playas from the win 10 edition. It wasn't clear about playing with xbox live friends though, and i've been looking around on how to do it because i've heard you can, so i want to set it straight.
Can you play with xbox friends? If yes then how?
Is gold nessecary?
If it is not possible yet, when it will be can i play with my friends on the 360 or just the One?
Simple answer is no. No console can cross platform, online gameplay is limited to the same device (I.E. Xbox 360 players can only play with other xbox 360 players)

From the article:
Soon after launch, Windows 10 Edition owners will be able to play with those who've opted for the Pocket Edition, with plans to bring both Xbox 360 and Xbox One players into the fold further down the line.
Interesting. I wonder how the systems would handle all the different platforms being on different versions.

You can play with pe players from the windows 10 edition
Unless Mojang and 4J decide to completely rewrite the console editions to use the Pocket Edition codebase, it isn't happening. However, the Xbox One will soon be updated to run Windows 10, and will be able to play the Windows 10 Edition. The Xbox One Edition, however, will still be a separate edition and will not be able to play with the Windows 10 Edition, so if you buy an Xbox One, I recommend you buy the Windows 10 Edition instead of the Xbox One Edition if you want to play with Windows 10 PC users and PE users.
So basically if you have an Xbox 360 you can only play with other 360 players, but if you have an Xbox One, you can play on the Windows 10 Edition and play with people on any Windows 10 device + Pocket Edition players, but the Xbox One edition is still limited to playing with other Xbox One players.
Of course, there is the possibility that they actually will rewrite the console editions to be able to play with Windows 10/Pocket Edition, but I think that's not going to happen until:
Pocket Edition has every feature the console editions have. (Like Redstone, The End, etc.)
No feature will be lost when updating from the old console edition to the PE-compatible rewrite, and worlds would have to be able to be converted.
Well you say that but there all written in C++ and 4j skipping an update to go to 1.8 kinda makes me think. Plus windows 10 already has access to the live network so command blocks confirmed
Just because both are written in C++ does not mean they are compatible. The code structures could be very different, and the names of classes and variables even moreso. Even though they may be the same game, it takes a whole lot more than just being written in the same programming language to make 2 things compatible. On top of that, Pocket Edition would have to get all the features it lacks that the console editions have, which is quite a few. I doubt 0.13.0 is going to have all of those, especially since the devs seem to want to hold off adding The End to PE until its 1.0.0 release, so even if they do plan on rewriting the console codebase, they would have to wait for the PE devs to catch PE up to the current console edition, which would take at the very least 9 months at the current development rate. Making the console editions compatible with PE/Win10 Edition is not possible right now without having to remove quite a few features.
Now, a year and a half from now, I could definitely see Pocket Edition and the console editions being very close in feature synchronization, both with each other and with the Java edition, so maybe at that point the merge could happen.
Also, I don't see how command blocks are confirmed just because the Windows 10 Edition has Xbox Live integration. (Assuming that's what you're saying?)
And technically 4J aren't really skipping updates any more than they've done in some previous major updates. Saying that "Console Editions are getting the 1.7 and 1.8 update at the same time" is a little bit misleading, because the console editions already have some of the easier-to-add features from both, such as stained glass, for example. They've already done this before back when they did the update that brought the console from 1.3 to 1.6. The console editions already had most of the features from post-1.3 PC versions... they were just missing some things like the Wither from 1.4 or the Redstone components from 1.5. So it wasn't really a "triple version update", it merely added the big things missing to allow the console edition to be "fully caught up" with a PC edition, despite it already having features from that version (and even more recent versions) in previous updates.
Command blocks confirmed was a joke. And even if they were a compleatly different code bases its all down to networking, Minecraft is Minecraft they all play the same no matter what device it is on.
While the clientside code could definitely vary between editions to some degree, the problem is at the serverside level, as the editions probably send and store data differently from each other. And I seriously doubt the devs would write the code necessary to translate all the data being sent to the client-side game from the server-side. It would be a waste of time when it would be more efficient to just rewrite the console editions to use the Pocket Edition codebase.
You see you are missing the point. the beauty about using a single coding language is if I wanted to communicate with another devise, its as simple as sending that device a command, that device can understand it because it uses that language. And the way Minecraft stores date is exactly the same on mobile console and pc.
In other words if the Windows 10 and PE version were at the same version as the console (Same terrain generation version) and used the same network protocols. Then yes they would be able to cross platform easily.
but at the moment consoles and other device are completely incompatible that brings me to my next point.
4J Studios are pushing for 1.8 they already had enough on there plate with 1.7.2 that gets me thinking if they are going for 1.8 maybe Mojang are going for the same thing to bring them both up to date with each other in order to have cross play.
Then we hit the problems if "if" they got cross play working, they would they have to make a players world playable both on console mobile and Win10 and that could possibly bring unauthorized mods, security issues, hacks.
Good point. But whatever happens, I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
