So I was working on a aircraft carrier and to speed the process I used a lot of swiftness 2.
I had to build it under water and so on. the frames drop extremely low as I was rebuilding the ship and al the way near the end of the construction. I keep trying to build or line up blocks and the frames drop. If I used swiftness it drops faster. It crashed my xbox once and I had to clear the cache twice and it still doesn't work. It was working just fine an update ago.
While the above is true, it seems that 4J accidentally the game, causing it to lag for no apparent reason.
I tend to think that increasing lag issues with updates as being an almost inevitable issue... and that as the game continues to demand more out of the Xbox processors... an issue that, at some point, 4J will simply just not be able to overcome. Hopefully, this time they can still find a way to squeeze that little bit more performance out of the system to fix this.

Yeah, I'm waiting for the point when it gets too bad and too difficult to fix, and the updates start becoming PS4- and XBox One-exclusive since the older consoles can't take it anymore.
Change logs for the PC 1.9 snapshots place a focus on fixing a lot of memory leaks. Some of which have been in the game "since the beginning." It might be reasonable to suspect that some of those leaks made their way into the port and the extremely limited hardware of the consoles makes the issue more apparent.

I'm going to make my prediction now and say that 1.8 is going to be the Cut-off point for 360 and PS3.
If updating is will cause problems from here on out, then I'd like the think they'd stop doing it. It's not worth the unplayable drops in FPS we get just for a few minor things to be added. The game is great as it is and as the older generation players, we should accept that some things come to an end (updating anyway).
4J will probably improve on this bout of lag with the next update. We've had updates before that caused significant increases in lag and 4J has been able to make adjustments to compensate. That said though, they may hit a point where they just won't be able to fix the lag. Hopefully, they will just not release the update the breaks the game at all or at least then give us an option to uninstall the most recent update and redownload the previous one.
For some time now, I've tended to not download updates right away... I wait to see what issues people start reporting. If serious issues are reported, I just play offline and wait to see what the next update brings. As a result, I haven't actually downloaded TU28 yet and will probably wait for TU29 to see if they can fix this particular lag issue first.
