So after playing for quite some time and using the same Iron farm I have seen many times, I tried to modify it so that Iron Golems will still spawn but I will also have access to the villagers. Only problem is that no Golems has spawned as of yet.
Here are the dimensions to my farm:
First floor is about 10 blocks from the ground, on that first floor are most of my villagers, the ones with good trades, who are separated in individual stalls for easier access. It is approximately, 18 blocks wide and 14 deep while being 2 blocks high.
The second floor is mostly filled with doors and one villager (at least one villager has to be close proximity to the doors for the villagers to breed). It has the same dimensions as the first.
The third floor is 3 blocks high with the same dimensions as the first two but is where the water is flowing towards the middle for the Iron Golems to go down the middle to be harvested for iron. The last floor above that is the same as the previous but has an open roof. Along the outside of the third floor, I have around 15 villagers who have bad trades in individual sections to prevent breeding.
My thought was that the Iron Golems needed to be above 10 blocks from the ground, needed at least a 10x10 area to spawn, enough doors to produce at least 14 villagers, and the villagers need some kind of open sky to breed. No iron Golems has spawned, anyone can tell me why? Or what the properties needed for Iron Golems to spawn so I can fix my farm properly?
If I had to guess, the main reason your not seeing iron golems is because, where the village center is for your setup can't support spawning of iron golems. Iron golems do NOT need to be 10 or more blocks off the ground for them to spawn.
Keep these tips in mind.
#1 Only doors influence where the village center is, NOT villagers.
#2 Iron golem spawn area is 16x16x6 and is centered on the village center.
#3 Villagers will detect doors all directions from where the villager is standing 16 blocks, up to 5 blocks down, and 3 blocks above.
#4 In order for iron golems to spawn they need 2 solid blocks and 3 air/transparent blocks, Yes its possible for iron golems to spawn INSIDE of other blocks.
#5 Iron golems need at least 21 houses, and 10 villagers to spawn, and have a 1/7000 chance of spawning.
Hope this helps.
