As the title states, I can't believe they put disabling the weather cycle in host privileges instead of just making it a game option. Some of us like to play in multi-player worlds where achievements and leaderboards are active. Rain causes soooo much lag in these games. Why does no one at 4J seem to get how irritating it is to have to limit what you do in multi-player games due to lag. (Limiting redstone and piston use, limiting running water, limiting or just not using beacons, etc) Weather is most useless part of this game. Why not just be able to turn it off without having to turn on host privileges?
I know the lag issues are supposed to be better on the Xbox One but not everybody can afford the upgrade just yet.
In survival, you are supposed to survive. In creative, you are a deity. Deities can control the weather; mortals cannot.
(Fire and explosions are for anti-griefing purposes before anyone goes there.)
What are you surviving with rain other than the mobs can stay out during the day? Given the immense lag rain causes, I don't think a few extra daylight hours for mobs to be around are worth it. 4J needs to fix the lag or place the weather cycle outside of host options then we can be mortals enjoying the game with others.
I think they should just delete the leaderboards entirely from the game. They are more meaningless than the rain and generate an aversion in people to using many of the game's features (like host privileges)... and let's face it, most people get the achievements fairly easily without altering the gameplay. If the leaderboards were deleted, there would be no reason for people to be fussed about whether or not any particular world was either used in creative or with any of the host privileges turned on. It just wouldn't matter anymore.

I agree with you. I don't personally care about leaderboards either I just play in some worlds where some people do. I like who I am playing with so we manage lag as best we can. That being said, I think the gameplay would be better if we could use host options to turn off the weather. I still think they should have made this an option outside of host options.

The other option would be to activate leaderboards for all worlds... including creative mode worlds. My point is that no matter where they draw the line between leaderboard active and leaderboard inactive worlds, someone is going to gripe about it even though they all swear up and down to not care about the leaderboards.
I play almost 100% offline using a profile that is not even Live enabled, so leaderboards are just not an issue for me and achievements are just for my own personal pride (i.e. gamer points are also meaningless)... and still, I can enjoy playing a survival only game... or I can modify that game with creative or any other means and not feel "guilty" or anything like that. Actually, knowing that my activities don't go onto any leaderboards anyways frees me up to enjoy the game more.
You are eliminating mobs during the day. That in itself is a valid reason
And? There's also Peaceful difficulty, which does the same thing.
Personally I keep my world in Survival mode so that people can earn achievements. Rain does nothing but lag my server to death and I don't want to enable host options and make people unable to earn achievements. Either fix the rain so that it doesn't make the game miserable to play when it is raining, or let us turn it off without disabling achievements and leaderboards.
An issue with just having a mere game option to turn off the weather is that it would then enable each player to turn off their own weather individually; whereas, host privileges are on the list controlled by the host. The only toggles on that list that do not disable leaderboards and achievements are those that can only make the gameplay harder than the vanilla version (e.g. disabling mob loot). Since adjusting the rain can possibly be used to simply make the gameplay easier (even in single player), it disables both leaderboards and achievements.
Please also note that the leaderboard stats for peaceful mode are kept separate from the other difficulty levels. This would mean that, to be fair, they would have to create a separate leaderboard page for each difficulty level for when weather is also turned off vs. turned on.
Lag issues with the rain should be addressed by 4J making further adjustments to the animation so that it is not so demanding on the processors, not by enabling the players to turn the rain itself off. In a real pinch, they could introduce a "rainless rain" option - whereby the light levels around the world would just dim to enable the mobs to spawn in daylight (or rather not despawn) without the actual animation of falling raindrops and/or the sounds.

They are terrible devs for consoles. Move over to PC where stuff actually gets done.
Build Planes, Boats, Cars, Airships and fight!

Stay fluffy~

WhhooooSHHHH
That's the sound of the point flying over your head.
Yeah it's easy to exit the game, turn on Host Privs and load the world again... but it disable Leaderboards.

Perpetually negative
