I'm thinking about buying an Xbox One soon and was curious to know the difference between the two versions of Minecraft. I'm aware of the bigger map (16x bigger?) and greater draw distance, but beyond that I can't seem to find much more information. Is it essentially the same TU version as the 360 or does anyone know of a thread or web page that has good information regarding this. Thanks
1st. The 360 version pretty much keeps the entire map in memory, with all loaded areas receiving updates in respects to redstone, growth, and entity ticks. (or at least it used to), but may have changed in TU's, haven't played the 360 version in awhile. Where the xbox one only loads an area around the player, and either unloads, or doesn't tick any areas that the player isn't around. Though this is quite a fair distance. It is similar to how the PC version works, except that spawn chunks area always active and loaded on the PC version, where as they are not on the xbox one version. This breaks anything that relies on the area being loaded. Not even the shooting of items through neither portals will keep the area loaded, unlike the PC version where this causes the area to refresh its area, and thus not allow the area to unload or become inactive.
2nd The xbox one has an autosave feature which is alot different then that on the 360. The 360 version pretty much pauses the game and takes a few minutes to save the map, where the xbox one version can almost save it on the fly taking only a fraction of a second or two, but during this process the game will 'stutter'. Personally I think this will be fixed in due time as I believe its not tweaked, I think they are critically locking from the time they build the flush data, till its finished flushing. Where as they really just need to collect the flush data, and within a different thread lock and flush, which would pretty much eliminate the stutter.
3rd We have the exact same limits in respects to hostile, passive and entities that 360/ps3 has (why? or why 4J). We all know the xbox one/ps4 can handle at least 4x the current limits.
4th The render range, response time, and redstone pretty much is superior to that of the 360. You can have many more chests, and lighting updates to the area before you notice any lag within the area, though you have to remember those whom might be playing with you, ie not locally.
I was told that it's a lot lonelier, so there's that....
lol
Thanks for the info folks. I think for me the bigger map is definitely the appeal. My current survival world was started about 3 months ago. I tend to branch mine at Y12 and now at the point where I keep crossing over previously branch mined areas. I'm not saying there is nothing left to look for in this map, but it is definitely starting to feel small. I think the main thing that appeals about the bigger map though is the possibility of them adding in the newer biomes. The 360 map size just isn't big enough whereas a map 36 times bigger definitely could cope happily with greater diversity. I'm always looking for the ideal map seed but there always tends to be something missing, however minor, or not enough of it to be worth having, such as a desert 20 blocks wide or an ocean biome you could throw a stone across.
Yeah. If you get an xbox one you should get the x1 version. I don't know if the offer is still on but when I got it on xbox one it only cost me about £3.99 due to an offer that you can upgrade to x1 version for a fraction of the price.
The larger maps alone make it worth while. On 360 version I would have to start a new game a lot but on the xbox one I can just move to another area if get bored with my current house. In my current x1 game I have many houses and bases dotted around and have still only explored a fraction of the total map.
If you do make the switch, remember empty your inventory and Ender Chests into other chests in the world first or you lose those items.
What, you mean if I transfer an existing world? I would probably start a new one though it's handy to know that. Don't they have enderchests in the x1 version yet?

Stay fluffy~
There are some minor differences.

And that pretty much sums it up.

They do but for some reason it doesn't carry over properly.
