There a few ways I know of. As Syeonyx said, landing in water of any depth will negate all fall damage regardless of height. I have a sky spawner built at a Y of 200 over water and I just jump off the edge to get down. The landing pool is only 1 water block deep, but I don't take any damage from the fall.
Another way is to enchant a pair of boots with feather falling. I'm not sure if this enchant is available in the 360 version since I play primarily on PC, but it does reduce fall damage. Not negate entirely though.
The only other way that I know of is that if you are in a mine cart, you can fall any distance and as long as you land on a rail, you won't take damage.
Just crouch, lean over the edge a bit, and pour water against the side of the block you're standing on... then ride the waterfall down. Only drawback may be that you will have a waterfall at that spot after that. Also doesn't work in the nether.
To add to UpUp_Away's suggestion, once youre in the water, swim up enough to collect the water source block, then you can ride it down safely while the water disappears. No more permanent waterfall!

Honestly, I never thought of that... great idea!
I also forgot to say, if it's an accidental fall and you're already in mid-air, aim with your water bucket directly below you and pour the water as soon as the block is outlined. That way, you'll land in the water and not take fall damage.
You just know I had to try it... Yes, it works, swam down about a 30 block lava fall in the nether... no damage and no damage to my leather armor.
Was that in creative or survival? Wither way, glad it works. I just didnt want some one to attempt it and - like Syeonyx said - forget to watch the effects timer or something. I just didnt want someone burning and loaing their stuff. Plus, lava is harder to make go away. And with no water, you cant put yourself out in the nether!

Yes, we are allowed to enchant boots with feather falling on Xbox as well. And to ZAYN_W0LF's suggestion, I never knew you could do that with lava. With a fire resistance potion, of course.

Survival... but I admit that the only thing I was carrying was the potion and a lava bucket. If it didn't work, then I wouldn't have lost anything really. I also admit I exited without saving after the test since I had no way easy way to get back up to my portal without a pickaxe.
Yeah, forgetting to watch the timer when using potions often just sucks... I'm usually fighting blazes when that happens.

Wow! No offense, but I'm a little surprised you of all people didn't already know this. I mean that a Fire Resist potion protects from lava as well. As for the damage, this was discussed in a different thread: If the player doesn't take damage the armor won't take damage either.

I really don't use potions all that much... no particular reason why not... just don't seem to get around to brewing them I guess.

Yea, I hear that. No problem, was just a little surprised is all.
I was all about potions when they first came out... then I sort of stopped using them. But the increased hostility from the new Mob AI has swung me back into the habit of brewing. Speed is great for closing in on skellies, especially those with Knockback bows. Also, they are a MUST for the Wither fight.
Does landing on cobwebs negate fall damage? I'll try it tonight if I remember. Also, I suppose you could use a height reset similar to those used in enderman farms?

I've never hear about crouching working... not sure about cobwebs... ladders aren't that good unless you use a lot of them (you can take fall damage when you hit the ladder), however vines do work pretty well. bucket of water is probably the easiest way to get around if you are just out and about and need something quick and temporary to get down, though, just drop and reclaim, and ride the water down.

So I thought it might be crouching while falling but not sure

Retired StaffYou can read all about damage and how to reduce it in the wiki.
http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Damage
Theres a whole section in the link for fall damage.

Tossing an Ender Pearl is also a good way to get down from heights if none of the other options are available.
Does nobody use ladders anymore? What is this world coming to, lol!

Retired StaffOh and if you're in the nether and just so happen to be carrying a fire resistance potion, same concept applies to lava!
In all honesty please don't try that. Can't say I would actually try it.

I asked the same question on www.ask.com and got an answer that crouching will do it.
