I need a bunch of iron for iron blocks for my beacon. Anyone know a efficeint iron farm? I built two already and one didnt spawn any and the other spawns them super slow.
First thing to note is that iron golem farms are inherently slow.. There's not much that can be done about it other than build multiple farms. They don't work like other mob farms, and village mechanics places some restrictions on speed.
With that out of the way, there is really only one design I think works adequately and consistently on consoles.. Originally by JL2579, Docm77's video shows a good solid design that just plain works...
One thing to consider though on consoles is the villager cap. You won't be able to build four of these like in the video, personally I find that two is more than enough over the long run.
Agreed, I just built one which pretty much follows DocM77 format, two spawn pads one above the other approx 70 blocks apart. It's great, just leave it running and pop back occasionally to find loads of iron. Hopper below the lava blade and maybe an item sorter to separate the iron from the flowers. It takes a while to get the iron for your pyramid, but if you just leave it while you're busy on other stuff it will soon collect enough, especially if you're mining in addition.
surely you would have to set up the foundry a-new constantly given the consoles lack of proper spawn chunks (and would have to when you close the game for any reason regardless)
I know it's pretty basic, but it's the one I use in my SMP world and i've never had a lack of iron. You'll have to excuse me if this design doesn't work as i'm a PC convert.
Keep in mind that the maximum number of iron golems that can exist in the world at any one time is 16. Some iron golem farms let the golems pile up in a holding area. If you've hit the max for the world, though, no more will spawn until the existing ones are killed off. Also, you have to make sure that the collection area is far enough away from the farm trap to allow "the next" golem to spawn.

I always assumed that an iron golem only dropped 1 iron, clearly they drop a hell of a lot of this is true as my piston killed by pressure plate golem stack gave me about 90 iron
It would probably be faster to trade for emeralds and use Emerald blocks instead of iron. Paper and raw pork/beef trades are the most effective.
and then after the 8th trade or so you need to refresh the trade so have to spend some of those same emeralds, I certainly havent ever found myself getting them as fast as iron

Each iron golem should drop from 3 to 5 iron when killed, so 80 should be the max from a single kill off of 16 golems. However, if some died from "natural causes" and their drops were still lying around, you might get more than that. In one world, I have an iron golem farm where the last few golems into the collection area wind up standing too close to the lava I use to weaken them and they die before I hit the group with the pistons. I know this because their drops frequently don't get into the water channels to be collected and I have to walk up the tunnel to collect them. If I don't bother, the iron just despawns after 5 minutes. I assume that I'm losing some drops all the time to this, but I still get plenty for my needs since I haven't upgraded beyond TU16 (and hence don't have beacons yet... or any need for the copious amounts of iron they require).

Tangotek has a video title Iron Foundry. It's a tutorial, that iron farm works on xbox and is super fast.

What about this design?
