could be a bug... never tried myself, as haven't journeyed in the nether enough to know of this. I believe it is intended for them to respawn like breaking the bonus chest will respawn it on load. But in this case to reset nether should reset chests within the nether.
Unsure how those work on the console version. Above is just what i am guessing as intended behavior that is suppose to happen.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Have you switched your game mode to hard core mode or other wise turned off the bonus chest option in your settings? I wonder if this might be somehow tied to that setting, and it might be impacting it's appearance on resetting the nether.
Don't know if this is relevant or not, but about 6 weeks ago I lost the bonus chest option, at least in the world I've been playing. I loaded my world without emptying/taking the bonus chest, then another bc appeared near the last one. I purged them both, then none ever appeared again upon future loads. The option does not even appear under settings or options. No big deal, since I don't need the stuff in the bonus chests, but you never know what the future may bring, with new items and things being offered through updates.
I guess it matters to me because I've been considering resetting my nether, in order to have access to horse armor. I hesitate to lose all of the remodeling I've done, especially the hollowed out areas and paved areas. Not that paving helps, since fires burn forever anyway, but hope for the next bugfix springs eternal.
Maybe GregNelson is onto something, and Cydd's troubles are related to some kind of bonus chest glitch, if indeed it is a glitch. Maybe it's just my game, my glitch alone.
Its odd i have reset my nether and the chests regenerated both before and after the bug fix too also shouldnt be bonus chest related as you dont need them to get the nether chests (and if you did you also cant turn them on or off after world gen so ouch)
Don't know if it's relevant, but I know that sometimes the location of the bonus chest changes if you break it and it respawns. I'm guessing, but I imagine it happens if any blocks have changed on or near the spawn point causing a location shift. Maybe this happened with the nether chests, though it doesn't sound likely unless you have radically remodelled the area around them?
A long time ago, there was an issue with chests in Mineshafts not generating in creative mode vs. survival mode. I wonder if this is a similar issue/bug.

If you plan to reset, make a copy of your save first.
