I built a hybrid of etho's and mtandi's mob farms, and it still works fine. For my needs anyway(100 drops in 7ish mins). Its just that i noticed i wasnt seeing any witches in it after an hour of using it. I saw the other mobs(skeles, zombs, creeps), just not witches. Are witches broken or something? Do they require a 2x2 space to spawn? Or a 2x2 hole to drop thru?
My dropper is two by two and works quite well. I built it above my house so it's always dropping while i'm at home. I had one witch in it when it was first built and then no more. I also bumped into one witch during the day outside but then never any more since then. I assume it's because they are quite rare, so I think they are working okay. Not sure what the chances of spawning are though. On my superflat world i'm doing they seem to be more common, but that might just be because more mobs are visible wherever you stand. Not sure if seed number has any bearing on this. I tend to find some mobs more common than others in different seeds. I have one where endermen seem to be spawning in great numbers and others where I can never find them!
As far as I know, witches should not be broken. As for ConArt who has not seen hardly any, I don't know what to say. I have been in my newest world, since the last update and I have seen at least one witch each night. Then again, I stay up at night to get resources rather than sleep. I believe witches do need a height of at least two to spawn in their huts, even though their hats go through the roofs. To me, endermen are more rare than witches. At least in my seed. Although I have no idea why seed numbers should even affect this.

Witch Huts are not currently working as intended, and neither is Nether fortress Spawning of Wither Skeletons.
This bug has been reported repeatedly to 4J studios as well as acknowledged and on the drawing board to be fixed in a future update. the last bug fix patch that came out had implemented a sort of band-aid fix to allow witches to have a chance to naturally spawn anywhere in the Overworld, and the Blazes and Skeletons/Wither Skeletons can similarly spawn anywhere in the Nether.... Which has in turn caused some issues with some Blaze Spawner MOB Farms and has made the Nether several degrees more difficult than before.

I agree that the nether is much more difficult now, but, it's easier to get the blaze rods and other drops I need! Plus sometimes I like it being a bit more of a challenge.

I'm actually enjoying the challenge of it was well, as Phoenix said, "It makes it more of a Hell realm."
Unfortunately, I think that i (that is 'we') might be in the minority on this one. I've seen many people come on these forums in the past and complain most vehemently about the 'Ghast' problem and that their spawn rates were too high. well, I'm finding the current setup at least 3 to 4 times more challenging than before... I actually have to be a lot more careful when I go to the nether now. It's really getting my adrenaline flowing just being there now.

I agree. I don't mind the game creating more of a challenge through Java-equvalent Update, (the change in Skeleton attack AI, the inclusion of Witches, Baby Zombies, and Wither Skeletons, and the chance of Blazes and regular Skeletons spawning naturally within the Fortress). However, this recent "Nether Bug" has forced me to suit-up, weapon-up, and potion-up way more than necessary before stepping into that purple veil of light. And while Ghasts have always been more annoying on the console, they're an utter nuisance in the present 'Bugdate'.
I just wish 4J would fasttrack the sound issues concerning ghasts. I don't mind that they show up with such frequency, its just when you start getting bombarded from all different directions at once without warning that's annoying.
I have to agree about the Nether being harder now, in fact the game generally. With faster fire rates for skellies, and mobs wearing armour, the whole game has become more challenging on hard now. This is a good thing in my personal opinion.
One question I do have though is regarding zombie pigmen. Last night I started a hardcore survival map with two friends. A friend of a friend joined part way in. We set up our base and then ventured into the nether. We experienced severe lag in the nether which I assumed was to do with four players, two of which were in the nether. Anyway, as soon as we go into the nether, zombie pigmen start attacking us. On my own survival world this has never been an issue and I wondered if anyone else had encountered this. I have one possible explanation... the guy that join us was a bit of a jack ass if i'm honest and it is possible that he attacked a pigman, making them all hostile in the area. BUT, would this cause the pigmen to attack all players, or just the one who provoked them?
Whatever the answer, the nether has now become pretty much off limits, as whenever we step foot in there, they attack straight away. This would not really be a problem but the lag makes it impossible to fight back. They appear almost from nowhere and one hit kill us. It's the lag which gives that impression but it has made things really hard. We tried exiting and reloading but they are still hostile.

It's been my experience that when a neutral MOB (Wolf, Spider in daylight, Z. Pigman) takes damage near another player (including falling damage), that neutral MOB will generally turn hostile against players in that region. I don't know if Player A causes the aggro directly to a Z. Pigman if that will turn aggro on all other players or not, my guess would be yes, but tamed wolf AI seems to be setup to hold aggro for specific players, and Z. Pigman may or may not be similarly selective.

Wow! That really sucks.
I, like GregNelson, am also unsure if Zombie Pigmen in this version/edition turn aggro against all players, or just the one that provoked them. From what you described, it seems they attack all players. I don't know if you tried this or not, but I can only offer one suggestion. Travel to the opposite side of the Overworld and build/enter a Nether Portal at that point. See if the Zombie Pigmen in that area are also aggro towards you. If not, try making your way (twisting, turning) through the Nether (all that is, will be ever?) towards your original Portal and hope for the best. \m/

Have you tried loading the world in peaceful mode and entering the nether while still in peaceful and saving the game... then loading it up again in whatever mode you normally play on (i.e. using peaceful to make all the aggro pigmen despawn)? it still works in TU16, so it might be worth a try with your problem.
