Just wanted to share some information-In case you haven't already heard. The upcoming 1.9 update for the PC will include some upgrades to the End and Dragon. Dinnerbone> has tweeted out that he plans to take the console's end setup, port it to PC and advance it.
What do you all think about this? I'm not sure I like it, I feel like it was a nice little touch that gave us some uniqueness.
What couldn't 4J do (especially with the One version)! Except for the basic concept/gameplay, nothing should be sacred, everything could be changed or improved.
From ditching all the old hostile mobs (aren't you bored with zombies by now?) and replacing them with new ones (on land, sea, and air), ditching that stupid 'dust' to carry electricity and replacing it with wires (or wifi!), graphics (water should look like water... and act like it), new ores, cut down trees and get Logs (for log cabins, stockade fences, and building long things like bridges, etc.), all sorts of things. Some MC die-hards want to keep it the same forever, but you have no idea of the MC you could be missing out on.
It's about time the consoles got some exclusives of it's own, and if the PC takes a back seat- tough.
The setup being...the way that the pillars are aligned or how the dragon fights?
I like the organized/random designs on the different versions. I also like the "Always at 0, 0" thing the console portal does.
Why change what works fine for both versions?
they want to make it so that the PC Ender dragon is the same as the Xbox version. the Xbox dragon is technically stronger and harder as it shoots acid balls at the player. I'm not sure whether they want to to an exact copy of the Xbox version, but that's the general idea.
That being said, it was also mentioned that for 1.9, the Ender dragon along with the end will be getting some new features on top of adding in the Xbox features. The main feature that was mentioned is that the player will be able to fight the Ender dragon again in the same world. So something tells me that we may finally see a use for that dragon egg that makes a nice trophy.
Just as much as I don't feel that the various editions of the game have to be identical, I also don't feel that they necessarily need to be really all that different either - even though a certain amount of differences might encourage people to buy the different versions of the game. The PC getting an improved Enderdragon based on the one first introduced on the Xbox doesn't take anything away from our Enderdragon... and, who knows, down the road we may get further improvements based on those advancements Mojang is hinting at. There will always be some differences designed to take better advantage of the unique features offered by each of the various devices... but really, whether or not the Enderdragon spits acid and such is not something that falls into this category; whereas, something like the availability of splitscreen is.
Because it was nice having something unique, and now it's not unique anymore. I'd really like to have more uniqueness, like the pocket edition does with their special creative items and other things that they'll be getting as exclusives. It's not a competition, but something that would be nice.
The two things people have wanted forever (Redstone Update and Horses) have come. Bugs aside, I see no reason the console should continue to follow the progress of the PC. If, along the way, the PC uses some of those unique changes / additions brought to the consoles, great!
I don't see what creating an Us v. Them mentality will solve.
When I play a game -- whether it's Minecraft or anything else -- my question is one thing, and one thing alone: "Am I having fun playing this game?" If I am having fun, then it doesn't matter to me what other players, on what other platforms, are having how much fun. More power to them. And if I'm not having fun, it still doesn't matter who else is doing what else, where else. The fun I get out of playing any given edition of MC is how much fun that particular game is to play, not whether it's somehow better than some other version that some other players are playing. I find this avoids a great deal of stress.
