I believe I understand villager mechanics fairly well. Cap is 50, 3 doors per villager, etc...
I have a map with a few dcomm77 iron farm towers. 48 doors per tower, 4 towers. Looking to get 10 villagers in each. Also have 3 villages in the world where ive reduced the population to just 2 separated villagers so they don't breed.
Two towers have 10 villagers, another has 5 and the last has 8. Add 6 villagers for the guys in my real villages and that should just be 39.
Villagers now get hearts but don't breed. Been this way for 5-10 hours of game time. Can't figure it out.
Is there any bug or glitch or factor causing this lower than usual cap?
The docm77 tower I used had 48 doors per tower, but that means it needs 16 villagers per tower (4 in each pod of which there is 1 pod on each of the 4 sides of the tower). Times 4 towers means the full iron golem farm requires 64 villagers... which is over the cap of 50. Also, docm77's video clearly states that getting the towers too close to each other can easily mess villager breeding, even without a cap limit. Most of us who have built this design build only two of the towers.anyways, which requires 32 villagers.
Thanks, i was going under the assumption that since 10 villagers will spawn a golem, figured 4x10 villagers would outpace 2 x 16. Or is 2x16 actually a faster farm?
Regardless though, the world doesn't want to produce more than 39 villagers when the cap is 50. Right now my spacing between one edge of a tower to the other is 65 blocks horizontally (village pods stick out past this like in dcom does though) and 70 vertically (base to base like dcomm again).
I just don't understand what could be causing the breeding pause even if my 4 towers isn't efficient :/

Iron golem farms are very slow at the best of times. If the number of villagers around the design is off or the pods are too close together this seems to affect the performance of the design. I've build 3 of these (using 1/2 of docm77's design) on the Xbox 360. It's a pain getting the villagers to balance out around the design... but once done, it does work. I suspect your pods are a little too close horizontally (I think the vid of docm77's suggested something like 100 blocks away from any other village (which each tower is considered one village). I think you should maybe move them farther apart. If the villages "overlap" that may be what's messing with the cap as well. They may have also reduced the cap in new worlds to accommodate horses... don't know since I'm continuing to decline that update and sticking with TU16. Mob cap limits in general are reported to be all messed up with TU19 and not really fixed with TU20.

I have a villager farm in my survival world. It can support up to 100 villagers (50 for xbox), and produces a ton of golems. I can't remember the link to it on Youtube, but I believe you can easily find it if you search for a massive villager farm in the search bar. Anyway, the farm takes time to gather the necessary resources, but given the success I have had with it, I would recommend it as an excellent choice. I'm not sure how many golems it produces per hour as I have never counted, and I don't even have the maximum number of villagers in it yet as I need to clear the natural ones. Nevertheless, every hour I return to harvest the golems I always find the storage has well over 10-15 golems in it, and this is with just a 3x golem spawn instead of the maximum 5x golem spawn (I have about over 35 or so villagers currently with around seven in three natural villages and eight in one big natural village).
