You kiddin'? My mine cart elevator has worked beautifully since like, TU6 or 7. All it is is mine carts on ladders. It's faster in the aspect of building and height-raising.
I already have a working elevator already just not the one that I want. I like one that goes both up and down
I don't know of any RS elevators that go both up AND down. I'm sure it's possible to reverse the state and direction of the circuit, so that the pistons can be extended and then sequentially open from the top down, allowing you to "fall" at a controlled descent, but I wouldn't even want to attempt to take on that project.
Water elevators and death-drops are my go-to methods for traversing long distances vertically.
Alternately, you could build a Porklift... a minecart elevator with saddled pigs instead of minecarts.
Make a water elevator, its super simple, some signs with buckets of water, no redstone needed and it looks good if its open with glass too.
or you could use the old minecart elevator, again simple but doesnt look too good in my opinion
Yeah, the water elevator is more aesthetic, but the minecart elevator is much faster for going up, a simple drop with a water break 3 blocks up from ground level is a good way to get down very fast.

I'm I the only one that thinks Minecart elevators look good?
In my design I use a 3x3 ring of stairs with inverted stairs around the bottom of them. One of those bottom blocks is a full block so the ladder can attach to something. The minecart then sits atop the ladder. It looks great. Each ring can be free-floating or protrude from a wall, depending on your needs.
I still prefer water-lifts because of their reliability, even though they are much slower. Minecarts tend to fall off their ladder-perch to the segment below, which is a hassle to fix if you have no other way of getting up to that level.
