I'm having a small issue with only one mushroom cow on my small mushroom island. I've researched everywhere I can think the past two days trying to get some info on this. I've come up with tons of different answers between versions on PC and consoles and TU differences. Here is what I'm trying to figure out...
I have no other animals, as this is a survival island seed with only one mushroom island and a few more small islands.I need one piece of leather to make a book for my enchanting table and I don't want to kill my one and only mushroom cow. Being that is is 98% ocean biome, I can not get any animals to spawn. I've now tried to expand my mushroom island with success, but still nothing will spawn. I lit the entire island up with torches to prevent hostile mobs and a few of the caves surrounding the island. Still not one more cow. I lured the one cow away from the mushroom island, to my main island to free up some possible spawning space and reduce the number of entities in the mushroom island chunk. I've tried everything I can think of. Can anyone help me out or just flat out let me know if my efforts are futile. I've also lugged in a second controller and just let it sit about 15 blocks away just to make sure someone was within the spawn radius.
Yes, I can back it up onto my console memory. I'll make sure disable saves and go try that out. Unfortunately, I already used one of my only two name tags to name this cow to ensure that he didn't despawn. I've literally spent hours upon hours waiting for a new cow to spawn with my second controller on guard duty while I roam about.
Haha nice! Have fun with your Mushroom stew!!! lol

Thanks, but I just wanted the steak and most of all the leather for books. I did more testing and oddly enough, all I have to do is shave the first mushroom cow and more will start spawning on the mushroom island. Doing it that way also causes me to lose the name tag though. I don't think there's anything to do that can save it. I wish there was a way to remove a name tag. On the bright side though, I now have a cow farm.
I'm not sure if it would've worked, but I think you could have enlarged your mushroom island (allowing mycellium to spread), causing it to spawn a second mooshroom spontaneously.

I had already tried expanding. As soon as I removed the name tag or killed the first cow, they started spawning almost instantly, but still only one at a time. For some reason, it seems like the first cow being named with a tag was preventing anymore spawns. This could be worth looking into.

Either you have an awful lot of passive MOBs trapped somewhere... or there's something fishy going on.
Have you tried leading your mooshroom more than 128 block away from your mooshroom island and putting it in a pen to see if that helps with spawning new mooshrooms to the island?
Also, remember to wait more than 24 blocks away from your spawn area if you are waiting for new mooshroom spawns.
No I cannot get a 2nd Mooshroom cow either. I have gone through about 100 mushroom islands and never see 2 cows. HELP ... I think 4Jwill never fix this. ANY IDEAS I want to breed them.

Please let us know what you have done to try to find a second Mooshroom or get another one to spawn. Have you taken the Mooshroom off of the island and moved it at least 128 blocks away?
It could honestly be a bug in the code. Slimes just recently stopped spawning like they used to with the recent release of TU35 making most slime farms inoperable. It could be the same for the Mooshrooms.
