So quick question here. I was planning on using a villager in a mine cart for a future build. The problem I am running into is after exiting and loading back onto my world the mine cart that the villager once was in disappears, and just the villager remains. Is this considered a bug or working as intended? And does anybody know a way around this so the mine cart doesn't disappear? Would kind of ruin my plans if I had to manually place down a mine cart and push the villager back in every time I start up the game. Thanks in advanced.
I've never heard of that happening before. I know that mobs pop out of carts upon reloading, but I never had a cart despawn.
And if that happens with a mob popping out of a cart, whats to say the cart wasnt pushed down the track, and maybe accelerated by power rails? Just a thought.

Do they need to be in a Minecart for some reason? Because there are a number of other ways to immobilize them, and keep them in a predictable area.
I've experienced this bug too.. I had a set of villagers in a temporary holding area, exited for a break and came back all of the minecarts were deleted. I expected them to pop out of the carts but they were simply gone.
I just tested it. Any mob on any rail will cause the cart to despawn upon loading. Motion does not prevent despawning.
It's been reported (probably yet again) on the overflowing bug thread.
This happened to me several times-- more than 5 when I was building my iron golem spawner. I was transporting the villagers to holding place about 30 blocks in the air. To stop the mine cart from despawning I just would mine the minecart when the villager was still in the minecart.. The villager would pop out and the minecart went to my inventory.
