Hey, I've set up a textbook mob grinder and im just not happy with the rates. I know that mobs can spawn in my system but wont move unless im within 32 blocks or whatever. Im tryna see if anyones alrdy got an efficient one set up on a survival world and would let me look at the real deal. The ones I see on yt are either on the pc version or in a creative world so i cant trust the rates.
Someones prolley gunna wanna mention water dispensers, show me where to put em to make the mobs flow of the pads.

I think I know what type of grinder you are talking about, but just to be double sure, is this a grinder without a mob spawner?
Assuming that it is a grinder without one, the mechanics are tricky and can be a lot of work on survival. Personally I don't use them in survival as the mechanics requiring you to be nearby make it a huge pain, and the fact that open areas such as caves or night time on the surface will cut into your mob count. The best way seems to be to build your platform up in the sky, but I have only seen and done that type on creative.
What I recommend you do is instead look for a mob spawner. They work perfectly on the Xbox and you can also make it into an exp grinder; or both if you fancy using pistons with hoppers. Basically the design for it is that you make a proper sized room with the spawner in the centre, up in the air. You then have water covering the entire floor that pushes all the mobs towards a water elevator. The mobs then swim up the water elevator, where they are then pushed a few blocks down a chute that is usually high enough to kill or do high damage to them for a one hit kill.
With the elevator method, all you need to do is stand where the mobs get dumped down the chute so that you can farm them. The purpose of the elevator in general is that this location where you farm them will be right behind the wall of your spawner room, well within range for the spawners to operate.
There are a lot of videos on Youtube for this type of grinder as well. Try searching for mob spawner grinders, or exp grinders.

Hope this helps.
I need gunpowder...
Then it might be easier for you to simply farm creepers when they spawn. I don't even believe the spawner in the sky works all the time anyway.
