I am new to Xbox Live so I apologize for my ignorance. When I am on my opening screen for Minecraft the side that says, "join Game" is empty. Where do I find games to join?

Games will only be listed there if people are your friends list happen to be playing Minecraft and have their world enabled as an online game. If they've set "invite only" as an option, they will need to invite you to join first. In the Multiplayer section here on the forums, you can find/meet people willing to add you as a friend in order to join their "servers" (some of which they leave running 24/7.
