i was thinking of hooking up my keyboard and mouse into my xbox so i could try the controls, see if i like them better. does anyone know if this would work, and if we would be able to use control configuration? i was also thinking of doing the same for gears of war 3 but I'll focus on minecraft. if it works there is should work on gow3.

I have no idea what you'd think you'd gain by doing something like that, but I see a big problem. Console MC was designed to use a controller only. It may not recognize all the PC keyboard or mouse commands (if any) that you think it will.
Of course there's programs to convert controllers plugged into PCs into keyboard/mouse commands (I use one), but there's no such programs for consoles. Plugging a keyboard into a console is for easier typing, not controlling games.
No, there's no reason to assume that the controls for one will transpose to the other.
IF it works for MC at all, it would be because 4J deliberately left the keyboard and mouse control functions active when porting code over from the java version over to the console and then ADDED the game controller code functions on top of that. I don't see that 4J would have had any reason to preserve that code... but I don't know for certain one way or the other. Same with Gears of War... if the program routines were deliberately put in (or left in) for compile time to the console, then they might be there, but most likely they won't be there in either case.
However, these events would be independent of each other... if one happened to work, that would have no bearing or influence on whether or not the other works, and visa versa.
Usually game control operations/functions are filtered out by the pre-processor during pre-compile time.... Basically something like this:
IF Compiling for PC, THEN use Keyboard and Mouse Functions for game control during compilation.
ELSE IF Compiling for XBOX, THEN use XBOX Controller Functions for game control during compilation.
ELSE IF Compiling for PS, THEN use the PS Controller Functions for game control during compilation.
etc.
so to shorten down what your saying is that, It's not likely at all that i could and to just use what was meant for the system. just for the fun of it though, ive become intrigued to try it out though. thanks for the reply

no that's not really the case, i was always better and aiming and placing blocks when i used a keyboard and mouse, so i wanted to continue using a keyboard. but i too doubted it would have worked. though it's still worth a shot i think.

On the contrary, by all means, I encourage experimentation, I just wouldn't expect any positive results. Who knows, maybe 4J or other developers anticipated that some players may want to try and play a console game with KB and mouse, and left the code in there to accommodate that... I just wouldn't hold my breath about it. Let us know what you find out.

i will the only problem is that when i checked the keyboard and mouse i forgot they don't have a usb end. its some sort of circle. so i'd have to buy a kewboard and mouse. :/

you have a PS2 mouse and keyboard. that's old stuff.
Just play more Halo. if console jockeys can run around a corner and line up a sniper shot on your noggin in .01 millisecond, it's PEBKAC
I don't like halo, i only ever liked halo 4. and my cousin who came first in the world tournament for halo 3, is somehow able to do that with a normal controller. i mean seriously ive never seen anyone as big of a no life as him when it comes to halo. I don't think this is a PS2 keyboard but i think it was made around the same time.

Yer too literal. PS2 does not stand for PlayStation. It's an IBM specification for a round connector used on PCs in the '90s and early 2000's
My point about Halo is not about Halo. It is that other humans are able to function just fine with a controller. The main reason is because they played a lot of FPS games, Halo being the most common example given that this is the Xbox 360 sub-forum.
You can plug a USB keyboard into the xbox for typing in minecraft but not for gameplay. You would need a special adapter like one of the XIM adapters to use a keyboard and mouse for gameplay. I have the XIM Edge that I use for FPS (mostly BF4) games and I love it. I haven't tried it on MC so I don't know how the gameplay would be.
